1.
At the risk of resurrecting an old thread, but for others researching this topic on the web like me before: I would like to add that a modern mid-range scanner nowadays easily handles 6x6 film well. I have an Epson Perfection V800 and scan using the latest SilverFast. I had very low expectations due to the negative reviews of such entry level scanners on the web, but the results are simply stunning.
My Hasselblad scans deliver 93mpix (14k x 14k at 6400ppi) TIFFs with high tonal range and a crisp resolution nearly all the way down to the fine grain of Portra 160. With low investment costs around €550 ($600) and the pretty much self explanatory SilverFast tool, I am extremely positively surprised by the workflow and results.
I don't feel like negative scanning being the arcane art any more that the online discussion might make you think.
