  1. So I ended up taking the lens to two repair shops and both said not to worry about it. Took it to KEH in Atlanta who had two Hasselblad techs look at it and then also to Camera Service Pro in Atlanta who also have a Hasselblad tech. Reading lens service manuals and watching some lens repair videos, I believe the rattling noise is coming from a single steel ball in the shutter speed ring assembly. I believe it should be encased in grease, maybe the grease dried out and now it's banging against surrounding walls when the shutter speed ring is moving. The lens is otherwise a keeper, visually like new, image output perfect as expected, shutter speeds are accurate. Testing shutter speeds on 203FE is very convenient as one can shoot the same speed with leaf shutter and another frame with focal shutter and then compare exposure.
  2. Thanks Orsetto. Is there any Hasselblad tech in the US that still services these lenses? David Odess is gone. Hasselblad no longer services this specific lens.
  3. I have a 250mm Superachromat lens in my hands that has a fairly loud rattle when moving the shutter speed ring. It sounds like loose ball bearings. The sound exists only when moving/setting the shutter speed. Shaking the lens does not reproduce the sound. The ring itself is mechanically moving properly, clicks into position, no wobble or play. After it's set there's no more rattle noise. Is this normal? I had a different 250mm Superachromat in the past and that one was silent - only clicking noise, no rattle sound. I also have 180mm CFE and that one has very slight rattle. My other lenses are FE without shutter so can't compare, but I did use some other CF lenses in the past and never noticed the rattle much. Should I be concerned about the ball bearing rattle? What's your experience? Also, the front retention ring (snap ring) rattles slightly when touched or when the lens is shaken. The engraved ring seems to be firmly screwed in, so not sure why the snap ring underneath it rattles slightly. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?
  4. Also checkout KEH.com, they have multiple f/1.2 lenses in stock all the time.
  5. I'm fairly good with fixing equipment, but never opened up a Hasselblad, if I wanted to try to open up the 2003FCW, where would I start? Are there any tutorials, do's and don'ts type of things? What kind of specialty tools would I need, where to get them? I could not find service manual for 2000 series anywhere, only found one for 201F and 203FE. Would any of these be a good enough approximation for 2003FCW? Thank you.
  6. He contacted bunch of repair places we could find in various online posts, but so far either received no response or feedback that only 500 series can be serviced. Is there anything we could try ourselves? Clean some gear or add lubricant?
  7. So he tried it in C mode with and without battery and the problem is still there. If it was electrical problem, I would think that some of the potential remedies wouldn't make sense, e.g. lifting mirror up, removing lens. It seems like these remedies reduce the amount of pressure needed on the shutter mechanism.
  8. I already posted this once, but the post disappeared during the site upgrade last week so am reposting. --------------- Hi, I have a friend who recently bought Hasselblad 2003FCW that’s giving him some problems and I'm trying to help him find a solution. Very frequently the shutter button seems to get stuck and I’m not able to fire off a shot. It seems to happen more frequently if the camera is unused for some short period of time, e.g. an hour or a day. I do leave the camera wound at all times. When the problem happens, I’m able to recover from it doing any of the following: • Rewind the shutter using the middle button on the crank as to not advance the film • Lift the mirror up • Remove lens • Remove back – which opens the rear curtain, and then rewind the shutter. After I get it unstuck, I’m usually able to fire off multiple shots without a problem, but if the camera sits idle the shutter gets stuck again, sometimes even just after few minutes. The problem is reproducible with two different backs and two different lenses 80mm CF and 50mm CF. Any advice on what could be the problem and how to get it fixed? Is there anything obvious to check? Thank you.
  9. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think you're right, it's the light seal.
