  1. A few mentioned seeing grizzlies. Invest the $50 or so for some bear spray you clip to your belt. Peace of mind and pray you never have to take it off your belt (very rare)
  2. Thanks for all of the suggestions. The arca cube is a bit out of my budget :)
  3. I'd like to get a geared tripod head for my polarie tracker to make polar alignment a little bit easier. The times I have tried to align it with a normal ball head lead to lots of frustration. There are a couple of different manfrotto geared tripod heads and really can not tell the difference between the models. Can u recommend one. Do u have an alternative polar alignment technique ?
  4. "Shun said, if it ain't broke don't fix it" While I subscribe to this, why are cameras different from other devices. I regularly do preventive maintenance (pm) on many things. For example I could ride my bike thousands of miles and never lube or replace the chain because it works. However without proper pm you are asking for a big repair bill to replace the entire drive train. Is the difference between electronic vs mechanical devices?
  5. What lenses did you use with the d300 and what fx lenses did you replace them with? When you went out to shoot with your d300 what lenses did you carry? How does that compare with what you carry with the 810? What I am driving at is the weight of your total kit. So if I am reading this correctly the d810 is about $500 - 1000 more than the d300 plus you have to (should) replace your dx lenses. This is a sizeable hunk of change but no doubt you reap many many benefits that you listed. I'm tempted being as the phantom d400 does not seem to be a Nikon priority. The less expensive upgrade path for 300 shooters is the 7xxx line but there are things I do not want to give up such as the high frame rate. I imagine jumping from the d300 to the 810 must be a little like jumping from the d70 to the d300 which was like a night and day difference that I clearly remember.
  6. Thanks for the tip Larry. I have not been to that refuge in years. Do the ospreys stay at the refuge all year? Supposedly there are some bald eagles at mercer county park . I did recently see a red tail hawk with a squirrel in its talons resting on a street lamp in the park.
  7. Thanks guys. I live in nj so not much opportunity to see ospreys. We do have lots of turkey vultures but majestic is not a word you would attach to them.
