  3. I'm trying to develop a style to my still lives, where a number of them have a story or theme, with a number of element to keep the viewer engaged. This image started out been called, the madness of war (check out the book titles) - but the advert in the paper, tied in with the Whiskey jar, and also implies that the writer has too much of a liking for alcohol.

  5. The room was created from 5 separate images. I shot Ceri against a grey screen, with lighting to match where I anticipated the window to be A blower was used to ruffle the hair. The debris was shot separately, using litter bark and glass shot against grey background (lit by a strobe with mini softbox)

Be True to Who you Are

This is an image I thought long and hard about uploading. Not because I don't like it, far from it, but its very personal to my family and I, in particular my daughter. My daughter has a genetic condition called Ectodermal Dysplacia, which has a number of symptoms associated with it, including hair growing very sparsly. She used to wear a wig, and still does when the mood takes, but she took a very brave decision some time ago, to just wear nothing or a headscarf (to keep warm - temperature control is also associated with ED) she feels she's not herself with the wig - not an easy decision when you are going through your teens. The image is to show how she feels constrained with the wig, and the picture is the "real" her trying to get out. The cards are there to show, every decision in life is a gamble, some like this one are more important than others as it affects how others interact with her....and she picked up a pack of cards part way through the shoot as she was getting a bit bored. The title, is that of a Jessie J track, that has special meaning to her.

  9. Hi David, Walter is a fictitious character I created. I bought the clock from a well known auction site, and it came with the inscription "W Dunn" it helped me personalise it and think about how to bring it alive. I imagined Walter to be a middle aged man, who was a miner by profession, his passion was Pigeon racing, and he relaxed waiting for his birds, smoking his pipe and reading his paper.

    The Entomologist

Thank you, this was lit by a very large light box I have ( about 3 feet by 2) - rather than the light painting I used in the last image. I modify the light with a black drape, I made this about a year ago, so can't remember the exact details but I think I used one reflector(a large piece of white board).
  11. Thanks Thomas and Jean. Jean I really welcome constructive comments. The light under the ashtray, is from the ashtray - its coloured glass so casts orange light, its one of the reasons I used it as I like the effect, I have other images I will upload at a later date, that are lit by conventional means where the effect is the same.
