Hey everyone. I'm relatively new to using off-camera flash. I have a casual shoot coming up with a friend of mine who is a model. She has an edgier look to her, so I've chosen an urban location for the shoot. There is a building with graffiti on a concrete wall I'd like to use as a background. I have two speedlights, a 45" umbrella with black/silver/white, and a 24" soft box. I would like to light the background with one speedlight and light my model with the other speedlight. My question is should I use the umbrella as the key to light both the model and the background from the front and use the softbox for side fill? Or, should I use the umbrella to light the background only, and use the softbox from the front to light the model. Ultimately, I want to create depth and separation of the mode from the background. I also want the image to pop and have a bit of an edgy look in post. Thanks!
