  1. I'd like to renew as well, but not under the current auto-renew structure using my credit card - PayPal as it was works for me. Let me just add that I've been inactive for 3 years and frankly there's nothing keeping me here except for an inexplicable sense of loyalty which I'm still willing to pay for, but just not under the current payment terms.
  2. Seems like a video made deliberately dramatic for the purposes of going viral. A science teacher would have used a magnifying glass or binoculars with a dummy head rather than needlessly sacrifice a perfectly good camera just to see smoke coming from it. Maybe next time someone will try to outdo it by burning up a medium format digital mounted on an observatory telescope.
  3. I can't find it under "Account" either - I do recall once seeing it and even asked about it in the forum. Now the only way I can find it is through a search: Search our Community | Photo.net Maybe the link only becomes visible when ones subscription runs out.
  4. I recall Bill was ill for quite some time. Thanks for the update, Lannie. RIP - gib | photo.net
  5. If you think photography can get expensive with its "hidden" costs, try astronomy some time! Some hobbies can require a room filled with gear depending on what you want to achieve so it shouldn't come as a surprise if a ton of money gets spent.
  6. I know quite a few young folks who have never used film but are fascinated by it similar to hipsters gravitating toward vinyl. When asked about film, I tell them just don't chimp and wait 2 days to download picture, and you will have enjoyed the film experience.
  7. I'm reminded of all these YouTube content creators spending tons of money on gear and untold numbers of hours making 4K videos, and I view them in 360p, IF I even look at them at all. It's even worse on photography sites; I can tell within milliseconds if I want to even bother to view the photos, let alone viewing them in full res.; that's the reason I only send people images no larger than VGA.
  8. Try: microphone 5/8" to 1/4" adapter - Google Search
  9. "I wish they explained a bit about how the lens worked." I poked around for their patent but wasn't successful; maybe they're withholding tech info until they make some commercial headway.

  11. I've been here for 17 years and have witnessed the site evolve from policy to management changes and many attempts at site improvements. Maybe it's not the site at all, rather limitations of the medium is no longer able to sustain our interest and where the social element is not considered important, or maybe us old-timers have simply moved on but still hanging on the past for its nostalgia. Let's hope a new generation of photographers will find the site inviting and inspiring and call PN their new home as we did when we still had fire in the belly, but I can't see myself taking the necessary time to relearn site navigation and start all over again.
  12. "I am always switching from manual to portrait to TV etc and am always unsure which settings and functions I need to use." Those are the very rudiments of photography which you can learn from a few YouTube tutorials in a couple of hours, but mastering those techniques and employing them on the fly will unfortunately take more than a few weeks. Nonetheless, try a YouTube search for "Wedding Photography"; it'll at least be more comprehensive than any written text anyone can offer here. It's a lot of pressure to be the photographer for such a special occasion, but there's always the option to suggest or recommend an alternate photographer for the couple, or you can simply try your best while making it clear to the couple that your results might not meet their expectations.
  13. " From all I have read he seems to be a very well informed professional."<br><br> It shouldn't matter what others think if that's your impression - just continue reading if you find it beneficial, or move on if you no longer find his writing helpful.
  14. Mary, I'm on a PC laptop with Chrome Version 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit) and it runs fine, but the problem is there's nothing to see as all my photos disappeared..!
  15. Hi Glenn, are you able to help me with my concerns? I've been a subscriber long enough to demonstrate my support for the site even though I've been inactive. While I'd like to continue my support, given my experience with site security and continuing to receive SPAM originating from my PN email address, I'm sure you won't blame me for hesitating to give out my credit card information let alone its annual billing. So here's what I'd like to know: 1) where can I find my subscription expiration date; and 2) can I renew by way of PayPal in 3-year increments as before; and 3) can I change my PN email address for the purposes of eliminating SPAM messages. Many thanks.
