1.
Hi all. I would like to hear other people's experiences with the Adorama Trade-In Service.
Here's my story cut short.
I sent my Like-New Canon 28mm 1.8 lens to Adorama for evaluation last week.
I was very hopeful to get a reasonable quote so I can just exchange it with a nice one.
Before I sent it out, I was told they could pay up to 70% of the resale value of the lens.
Upon research, they do sell that lens for $429 in their used department.
So I was hoping to get at least $300
When I got the call, I was told by the representative Jacob, that they can only pay 70% of $300 which was $210. That he's been doing this for a long time and that's what it says on the computer. He could have easily ripped-off someone who doesn't know. I bet it happens a lot and I feel bad for them. I feel bad for me.
I talked to Jacob to see if there is anything more he can do and he then said, he will call back if there is anything.
A few minutes later the Used Dept Mgr, Jack Gold, called me and admitted there was a mistake. It should really be $300. So he said he will send me an email to confirm the amount, and make sure to reply YES so they can process it.
No email came in.
So I felt like there is something fishy going on. So I emailed them and asked them to ask to please just send me back my lens as soon as possible.
I received a call this morning telling me that the check has already been mailed out for $300 even without my email confirmation. But because of the trouble, they are giving me $25 store credit for future purchase. I don't even want to buy anything from them anymore.
I am very disappointed at how they are handling things over there. Now, I don't trust them anymore. I feel like I've been misled to start with and my lens is worth a lot more than $300. Obviously they know that, because they won't send it back to me anymore. They said I have to go through waiting in the mail, rejecting the mail, and then they will return my lens. It just doesn't sound fair to me.

Right now, I am trying to get a deal from them, but no one has replied back.
Any good or bad experience with them? Because right now, I feel like I've been ripped-off and I should have known better.
