  1. I received my Nikon-to Fuji lens adapter today and stuck it on my Fuji X-H1 and then slapped on my Nikon 50mm f1.4 AI lens and shot a few frames around the house. I was surprised at how crisp the lens was. I suspect since it's on a crop sensor I'm getting the best of the center of the lens. I guess it is a nifty-fifty though so shouldn't be too hard to adapt. Will be a cool to try it for portraits.
  2. I'm considering trading my 35mm f2 AiS lens for the AF version to take advantage of the AF capability with a Nikon D750. I would like the versatility of using it on my Nikon film body as well (FM2). Any issues or image quality nuances to be aware of? Thanks
  3. Unfortunately my batting average with the older Nikons has been pretty poor from a reliability perspective. I love these since I learned on them but have resigned myself to the fact that any older Nikon is probably going to need a CLA. I've had an FE, FE2 and F3HP all exhibit problems despite being "film tested" and "camera seems to work fine." There were cosmetically mint. I was able to return two fo them and get a CLA done on another which croaked again a few months later after only one roll of film. The reality of 35-40 year old cameras I guess. The allure of getting a $60 camera fades when it costs $170 for a CLA. Good news is my FM2 is flawless but I bought it from a repair tech and the CLA was "baked" into the price. Maybe I should get a Nikon F or F2 and just use "Sunny 16" since they seemed to tolerate the jungles of Vietnam pretty well.
  4. Thanks guys, lots of good info here. I'm going to have an experienced Nikon tech look over my FE. However i suspect the issues with the images are mostly from the development end of things. I'm also going to shoot a roll on my FM2 which I know is functioning perfectly and will send it to a different lab. I guess one of the things I'm learning is when you develop film and then scan and print it on a printer you've left film photography and are now doing digital which can introduce artifacts. A nuance I guess many of us accept given the real estate and complexity needed for a full-up darkroom.
  5. I’m getting back into film after a couple decades hiatus and just shot a roll of HP5 400. I’m seeing excessive grain in some of the images. There is also some fine black vertical streaks in these images, no idea what caused it but the streaks appear in a bunch of the images from that roll. It was unexpired film and was kept refrigerated. I did discover today that my Nikon FE's meter is not exposing correctly, about 2 stops of overexposure and my "slower" shutter speeds are no accurate which leaves them all in doubt. However I’ve looked at some Ilford and T-max tests of 3 stops under and 4 stops over exposure and not seeing anything like this. I doubt I’m that far off as I ignored the meter and used Sunny f16. My local lab is using Kodak D76, not sure what scanner they are using. Probably the end of the line for old FE. Will try another roll on my FM2 and perhaps a different lab. Nikon FE B&W Any ideas on this? Thanks much..
