1. Thank you all. How about landscape photography. Looking for river creeks with rocks and canopy foliage for the classic shot. Thanks.
 2. on our way now to first time smoky mountain national park and teneessee area photo trip Any must Not miss photography location recommendations or well hidden but must get pictures. I have done my bit of homework but i always like to hear what others have to say Thank you in advance.
 3.
Is anybody printing at homes these days ? too many , too few. ?
Ilford recently came up with new inkjet papers but failed to include them in the sample packs or what they call now; discovery packs. I don't want to have to buy the entire box just to give them a try. Worse, they have not replied to my inquiries over their website. I wonder how many people are in my same position. So I came up with this idea of buying the entire boxes but then split them in my own sample packs, resell them on ebay to make up for my cost. I am not really interested in profit, just to split the cost so they won't be expensive. The papers I am interested in are :

Gallerie Prestige Metallic Gloss Paper
Gold Fiber Gloss Paper
Gold Raster Silk Paper

Does this sound good ?

 4.
Thank you all, all great recommendations and advise. By taking the challenge and the risk , I do not want to imply in any way that I intend to break the rules. This would only if not immediate, eventually backfire on me. Besides I couldn't feel good about myself. I just want to take the challenge to still make the customer happy without breaking the church rules or disrupt the ceremony. The only other option would be to turn down the job. If things don't turn out right, I rather refund the customer.

What I am taking away from this conversation:
1- will advise the customer of the situation and possibilities so they are aware in advance.
2- will attempt to talk to the priest in advance for any prior arrangements. or select a permanetn location and hope for the best.
3- I will rent the 135 F2 instead of the 85 F1.2 . this was a tough decision since two stops is really want I needed . I use the Canon 5D Mark II . which I never take above ISO 1600 . that is my limit but I rather have reach @135 should I have to stand far away.

 5.
Hi Sandy, thank you. The thing here is that the customer has seen my previous work inside a church and that is what she fell in love with and the main reason to hire me. There are in fact pictures outside family and a separate portrait session. However, she wants a record of the event inside the church as from my perspective as well as everything else already mentioned.

 6.
I've been hired to photograph a First Communion event, and the Church does not allow photographers. What to do ? I am up for the challenge and the risk. However, I'd like to hear opinions on what you do in this situation, tips and/or recommendations. If you live in South Florida, I am talking about St. Gregory Catholic Church in Plantation, Broward County.
My fastest lens is the Canon 70-200 IS .F/2.8 which is a great lens , but I already went to the Church and metered the light , seems consistent at ISO 1600 I get F/2.8 1/60 sec. , I could rent the Canon 80mm F/1.2 which will take a $90 chunk. but I also have the problem of not photographers allowed to contend with.

Moderator Note:

This thread moved to Wedding and Social Events Forum from Casual Photo Conversations Forum

 7. If we go by the premise that more expensive should be better, then the 1DX MII should be better than the 5DS. Correct ? In other words , why would I want to buy a 1D X M II instead of a 5DS for less money. What makes the 1DXmore expensive ? Does it have better image quality ? In my case I shoot primarily still. Never videos and primarily Portraits as my 2nd business. As hubby I shoot nature landscape when time allows me. I crave for the best image quality I can afford. I have all prime lenses. I cannot afford medium format , At least for now.
 8. What is the price range Real Estate photography goes for. ? Does the listing value of the house or Appt.being photographed also affect the value of the shoot. Or perhaps number of images. Looking for an idea how this market works. Thank you in advance
 9.
You may want to consider Portrait Professional software. It is inexpensive and it works wonders quickly. Easy to learn too.

 10. Not totally convinced about this filter. First thing I noticed the stops are not consistent. It seems to me the angle or quality of light makes the filter behave differently. Additionally The step marks are not necessarily 1 stop steps. The other issue is that it's not exactly neutral. It adds a bit of green cast. And last, if stopped all the way down it creates X marks on the picture. Have you experienced this behavior on this filter or other ND filters. It was not cheap so I expected a bit more reliability.
 11.
Nikon is not servicing any of their scanners anywhere for quite sometime now. So yes, once it dies, it dies.
However, provided the lines are not in the original film, continue to watch to see if they reappear on other pictures and under what circumstances. I cannot say what could have caused it , whether it is an obstruction or the scanner is malfunctioning. you have to see if it is constant or reappears under certain circumstances.

 12.
I am 45 years old now, although I like photography since I was very young, I have never been more sure of the passion I have for photography as I do at this time in my life. I worked most of my life though, in the Computer Systems industry. Photography has remained for most of this time a hubby. Just in the last two years or so I converted it to business. I do have very good professional equipment accumulated. Although still in the beginning, I personally know I have many shortcomings I will need to overcome if I want to be successful. I never had formal academic training in the visual arts , but just self learning through books, internet, and practice. Second; I have a hard time being a people's person,

Many have advised before that one of the best ways to learn, is to work for someone that has the experience, even if it is free or for little money. Learn from them. I live in South Florida. I would love to do this, but having a hard time knowing how to connect in this business. I am still discovering my unique style and making sure it is likeable , I am working towards this goal. I still work in my regular job which provide the means for the family, but my goal is to slowing transition and make the switch when the time is right.

Any advice on notes above would be greatly appreciated . If that advise comes from South Florida Photographers, even better but all is welcome.

thank you in advance.

 13.
So while I was reading this article; http://www.photo.net/learn/basic-photography-tips/five-reluctant-subjects/
I came to the realization that yes, I am in the number 1 spot. Photographing your own children is the worst.
I have to say, my daughter gave me the best expressions and pictures I could ever hope for, up to the age of 7. Something happened after that that totally changed her.... She is now 9 . Trying to take beautiful pictures of her for her first communion portraits was a futile effort with no end. She cannot stand more than a couple of minutes and the beautiful face expressions are nowhere nohow to be found .... the article goes about hiring a professional photographer because they will listen to someone else... well. the issue is that I am the professional photographer. then what now ? Well, I am using the term professional a little loose but I want to clarify that I only have about 2 years experience photographing for money. Before that it was a hobby .
I was really hoping to capture some beautiful pictures of my daughter's first communion and portraits myself...

 14.
What is the name of the light viewing device I need to evaluate prints. You stick the print under the light which is daylight balanced.... ??? After I make a print, I find myself struggling to review colors, tone, etc. my environment editing light is low and not necessarily D55 or daylight whichever is called. and prints look much darker than the monitor of course. I'd like to use this light that allows you to check the print right there next to my monitor for comparisons.
thanks for the guidance.

 15.
I wish I had seen this thread earlier. Yes I was one of those that the APP was crashing upon start. the only way to fix it was to delete and reinstall which then in turn had the side effect of having to retype all the recipes. Please note that this was happening to me after I upgrade to iPhone 5 , but never happened on the 4. Since then I upgraded to your newest download and it is now working great so far. Hope it stays that way. great app. I can't do without now... I became dependent.
cheers.
