<p>Thank you for the tip. I should have tried that -- I ended up shipping 2 units to Canon Factory Service. They charged me nearly $200 for each. I suspect that all they did was use a pencil eraser to clean up the battery contacts.</p>

<p>Has anyone experienced this problem where a 580 EX II will fail to power-up after being switched on -- even with a fresh set of batteries.</p> <p> </p>
