  1. It could be a component issue I had a few years back on my D40X.The camera would just not power on.A small gear accessible as you open the base plate had worn down and upon getting it replaced, it worked just fine.I do not remember what the function of that gear was now.Assuming that the D300 has a similar setup, you could try.
  2. Hi ! Thanks everybody for your valuable inputs and putting the issue in clear perspective. @ BeBu Lamar, the D40X is indeed a neat little camera that has served me well all these years.I only had to replace the drive gear once.I think I will hold on to it as a second cam.
  3. Yes Shun, you are absolutely right about the upgrade.
  4. Yes I did read that post by Mr.Shun Cheung "All Nikon DX-format DSLRs introduced before 2007 cannot control the aperture on E lenses, including all D1 family, D2 family, D40 family, D50, D60, D70 family, D80, D100, and D200, plus the two exceptions after 2007: the D90 and D3000". The D40X was introduced introduced later than the models mentioned ,during April 2007 I think. That is why I was hoping and wanted to confirm.
  5. Hi! I am planning to buy the recently introduced Nikon 200-500 during the current holiday season as many vendors offer good discounts.I would like to know if the lens is compatible with my D40X body.I did read elsewhere that it was fully compatible, but want to confirm as I am sure to get authentic information here.
