We use Smart Slides at Pixellu.com. They make a great slideshow and have lots of great music you can add.

On the original image, I would just even out his skin tone. Removing wrinkles from men can make them look like they had a facelift sometimes. I would also Increase exposure. The people in the back are really dark. Light Room is the perfect tool for this simple editing stuff. Photoshop takes more time.

One of the most important things in photography is to follow the light and when you don't have any to give you inspiration it makes it tough to get really interesting images, especially in landscape situations. Just try to get your exposure right and post-processing is key. Can't do a ton about a dreary day though, unless you want to do hours of Photoshop work.

We do all outdoor portraits in very bright lighting in Maui, Hawaii. For larger groups, we use two strobes, one on each side of the group out of the frame. We have found constant lights just don't do the job, at least in our outdoor lighting environment.

So I am assuming she makes good money off the photos. If she is just doing it as a service to her recital parents you could tell her you will do them for free and post them on a site where the parents can buy the digitals strait from you and you will probably make good money. She does obviously know your value and quality or she wouldn't be coming back again and again. If it's not worth your time just say no and see what she comes back with. Good luck :)
