1.
Thanks, Charles. Very useful answers and information.

 2.
Thanks Ian. I only sell a few hundred dollars worth of photography each year. So depreciating at once is not feasible.
For the same reason, consulting an accountant wipes away any gains. It should not be difficult to do it myself (I prepare my own tax forms). I just needed advice on a couple of ambiguous points.

 3.
I reside in the United States (New York State).

 4.
Hi,
I am an amateur photographer. I display my work in local galleries and have sold a few photographs, for which I have to pay taxes, of course.
I am filling out the necessary forms myself, and one of them is Form 4562 for deprecation of equipment. I used my new printer and camera more than 50% for business last year.
My first question is concerning written evidence for >50% business use. Do my image files constitute written evidence (there are very few pictures of family, friends, etc. there; almost all are like the photographs I sell)?
My second question is whether to use GDS (general) or ADS (alternative) depreciation system.
I would appreciate comments by anyone with similar experience.

 5.
I have a rough spot when focusing my 35mm f2 Ais lens. It is only at one point (towards infinity), and more pronounced when lens is held at certain position (on camera, parallel to the ground in landscape orientation). It has been like this for years, but not getting any worse. You feel it; it is like going over a little rusty spot, some very little sticking point somewhere there, or an uneven section of the helicoid, but the lens focusses well, nevertheless. It bothers me though. Would a cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment take care of such things. Thanks for your help.

 6.
Has anyone tried teleconverter TC-14A with the AF 105mm f2.8D macro lens? The set up will be used on an FX camera. I would appreciate comments on compatibility, and on IQ for close-ups.

 7.
They are excellent, actually. However, they capture the whole person, mostly, and in their environment. If, on the other hand, one needs just the face or head-and-shoulder portraits, 35mm may make the face look more convex than it really is, with the nose becoming prominent. A little flattening of the face, obtained by medium telephoto lenses, is more flattering to the subject.

 8.
Thanks everyone, for your kind advice. I will get a card reader for SD cards and try that. That is how I did it with the D200 CF cards. Transferring fist is safe, I know, but I thought the dual cards in D610 would give me that safety, and deleting before transferring would be quicker. I will test both methods.

 9.
Thanks, Jerry.
I did actually used that CD to upload the latest version oViewNX2. I can only g into transfer, and when I d edit, I cannot bring the files into full screen. It looks like it is ready for transfer only, while I would like to view them all, delete some and the transfer.

 10.
How can I view pictures taken by D610 in ViewNX2 without transferring them first? I want to view all in full, rotate if necessary, and delete unwanted ones before transferring them. I could do that with my old D200.

 11.
There are two kinds of hanging on to a piece of equipment.
First is for nostalgic reasons, after you have upgraded to newer equipment. One could just keep it, especially if it is not worth much, or occasionally use it. For example, I still keep my Yashica Mat124 TLR and Nikon FE2 cameras, although I never use them.
Second is using it as your regular camera or lens without feeling a need (or be able to afford) to replace it. For example, I still use my Nikon D200 as my only body, because I don't shoot action and low light scenes and it serves me well for what I do (even though I get tempted occasionally to replace it). All of my lenses (Ais and AF-D) fall under this category, too. They still are in frequent use. Some are 30 years old.
