If you need a more versatile lens than I would suggest 18-200mm from Nikon. However, me personally, always had a positive experience with Sigma lens as they seem to give more value for your money. You can read Nikon D70 lenses guide to learn more about what lenses are best for this specific camera. One more thing, I would also recommend that you look into Tokina lenses (especially 11-16mm) as it offers a unique perspective

Just keeps practicing, read some online tutorials, and improve your skills. You will get that "soul" feeling after some time.

Well I don't think you should have a problem with breaking a camera that easy.. Also it is bigger than your phone so you won't drop it as easily
