  1. Just a wild attempt at the impossible. I am familiar with this type of shutter, but in this case it is enclosed in a mount for the Linhof Aero Technika 45EL mount. The shutter is fired with an 18V power supply that charges the shutter and then fires it. Sometimes it doesn't work and that suggests to me that there is a bad (dirty) electical contact some where inside. I need to take it apart to see - any advice. Linhof expert will not attempt at the moment because of lack of parts, but my experience is telling me it is just bad (dirty) contacts. I do have two other lenses in the same mount that work perfectly: 150mm Symmar-S and 250 Tele Arton.
  2. Recently purchased a Linhof Technika V 5x7 after many years of wanting one. The mirror attachment is hard to find but I did see one a few months back.
  3. I was in Cardiff a few weeks back and traded my Fuji X-Pro1 with 18mm f/2 for 60 rolls of 120 B/W film. This was at CameracenterUK. They had a lot of "collectable" stuff but were price high since they have to make a living. No Robots though. I am from the US and have always loved the Robot Star 50 with it's built like a tank feeling. Sold my collection a few years ago for $400. Just bought another for about $200 with 38mm f/2.8 Xenar (12,xxx,xxx) it is the one with the slow silent wind. I have bought/sold on Ebay for 25 years. Sometimes I use a fair to me starting bid but mostly I have always used a small opening bid and let the current market determine the items value. Some times you win and sometimes you loose but that what makes life interesting.
  4. In 2002 I lost my job and needed money to live on. Sold my Linhof Technika 4x5 V outfit for about $2k and some other things on Ebay back when it was reasonable. Recently I have bought a Technika 4x5 Master and a Technika 6x9 Master as well..
  5. Above taken with iPhone 8. My working examples - have many in non-working state.
  6. Since this post I have aquired 2 more Linhof Press 70's, both working well. One is a twin handle with 80mm Planar and the other is a single handle with 53mm SA. Then, at a weak moment, I found a 53mm Biogon on a Technika 70 for the price of the lens alone! Of course the Biogon can't be used on the Press 70, but will fit the Technika V 6x9, and the Technika 4x5 with Techno Rollex (6x12) back. That is why I stick with Linhof - so much ability to mix and match.
  7. I agree, but going the whole mile is more difficult when you are travelling. I plan to develop B/W film in 120, 5x7 and 4x10. Looking more for convenience than best results, i.e. small amount of chemicals that operates in a range of temperatures.
  8. Back in the early 1970's I recall reading about, in maybe Modern Photography, an RFP from the US Military for a "one-shot" developer/fixer for Tri-X that could be used in the field. A contract was given to the winner and the resulting product was favorably compared to traditional develop and fix. Since it was funded by the US government the resulting formula was in the public domain. There were several other "one-shot" developer/fixer products available at the time, but all were found lacking compared to the traditional process. What happened to the US Military version? And, was it as good as the magazine article claimed.
  9. I had trouble even seeing the owls, let alone able to spot meter. It was getting darker by the minute so I let the camera take over. I should have used my A99II but it is set up for wide angle use with my Minolta lenses: 16,24.28(f/2), 35(f/2).
  10. No Minolta/Sony DSLR and SLR so hears my input using DSLR and old Minolta lens - the 300mm AF f/2.8: My neighbor across the street asked if I could take a picture of 2 Barred owls in Holly trees in his driveway. I had the 300 f/2.8 with Sony A850 already set up, so I pointed at the owls hiding in the trees. Put it on automatic and it exposed at 1/320 at f2.8 at ASA 200. The resulting images were dark. Only had one with both owls looking at camera. Lightened it in Photo.
  11. I once bought a camera body for next to nothing because the card would not fit in the slot. It had bent pins that could easily be straightened with the correct tweezers and/or little picks. Then the camera always worked fine. I thinks I had straighten about 2 dozen pins.
  12. Nikon always seemed out of my reach along with Leica and Hasselblad. Bought into Minolta and later Sony. Then, because being a photographic collector/user I bought a Nikon D1X with lens (28-200 AF Nikkor) several batteries and a charger and other bits for $54. It was fun to use and felt very strong. Now I have another two D1X's and several Nikkor DX lenses. Then on the advice of another forum's user have ordered a Nikon D300s at 12 Meg. 5 and/or 12 meg should be enough for most of my image needs. For "high pixel" needs I have a Sony A99II at 42 Meg and of course film in sizes from 120 to 4x5, 5x7 and 4x10. As in most situations, of any pursuit, you can't have too many tools. But must have the ability to choose the right tool for he situation at hand.
  13. This was recommended along with the D500 (quite expensive today). I don't need a large number of pixels since I have a 42M Sony A99II for that.
  14. I grew up in London. Gina, Sophia Loren and Bridgett Bardot were most popular European actors of my youth in the 1950's into the 1960's. I just bought a Linhof just like she is using: a late 1950's Technika III 6x9. Mine has the Voigtlander 105 f/3.5 Color-Heliar. Just need to find the Biogon like Gina's.
