  1. I have to print an abstract landscape photo I took for a friend. It's an abstract photo so details are not as important as the picture is blurry (long exposure and intentional camera movement). It will be face mounted on acrylic. My image is currently W 5760 x H 3840 pixels at 300 pixels/inch. The print I'm making is 30 inch x 40 inches. What would be the best setting to use to send the image file to the print shop to get the best out of the photo. Should I simply submit it the way it is or perhaps change it to 240 pixels/inch? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
  2. Phewww, I thought something might be wrong with the camera. Seems like it's not a problem after all. Never seen a shutter close/open like this. Hopefully everything with the camera works and I won't be disappointed when I get back from my trip and develop the films.
  3. I just bought a Konica C35 from a guy for $20. He wasn't sure about the condition but the camera seemed like in good condition and I have always been using medium format so it was a good chance for me to play around with the camera since I'm travelling this week. The flash and light meter both seem to be working. I have a really stupid question though. On videos on youtube, it seems that the shutter looks round when taking a photo. Mine looks like a weird shape when I take a photo! Please see the picture/video below. Is there something wrong with the shutter? http://i63.tinypic.com/33x7cb4.jpg
  4. The seller said he will sell it for $400 CND. Still think it's high but you never know...it's a beautiful camera and apparently it comes with a Kanto battery adapter that allows for the use of readily available button cell batteries.
  5. Thanks Dave. I just checked the sold listings and It sells for around $200-300 but they guy who is selling it wants $495 for it.
  6. I'm looking at a ROLLEI 35 SE fully functional in a decent condition. How much do ROLLEI 35s usually go for. From what I know the SE is the latest model and on Ebay it seems to be around $400 range.
  7. I'm travelling to Europe next week and I'm planning to get a Medium Format camera. I have worked with a Mamiya C330 for few years and also I have a Hasselblad 503CW that I will not be taking with me on this trip. I need something easy and light weight to carry around with me everyday. I'm looking at two different cameras and I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. There is an ad on Ebay for the Plaubel Makina 67 with 55 2.8 Lens. This camera has always been a dream of mine but it's a bit over my budget. It might also not get here on time for my flight. I'm also looking at the Mamiya 645AFD II advertised on KEH. The Mamiya is half the price of the Makina and I have the peace of mind that it will get here before my flight. I don't know really know what I'm asking other than whats the pro/cons for both of these camera. On KEH there is also different options for lenses. Which of these would be the best option? What is the main difference for the ones who have used it. Mamiya 80mm F/2.8 Lens For Mamiya 645AF Series & Phase One {58} Mamiya 80mm F/2.8 Sekor D Lens For Mamiya 645AF Series & Phase One {67}
  8. <p>Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm wondering what is the norm for matte size inside a frame?<br> Let's say if i have a frame sized at 24x36. What size should the actual print inside be if I want to have a matte board around the print?<br> Thanks in advance! </p>
  9. <p>Perfect. <br> I do have a hasselblad and a mamiya c330 but I was looking for something I can carry at all times. Is it heavy? </p>
  10. <p>Thanks guy. I recently purchased a Hasselblad 503cw. I wish I had the money to purchase a good scanner to go with it. I can't really afford renting a drum scanner. I'm basically broke after purchasing the 503. </p>
  11. <p>My school is having a camera sale and they are selling a fuji GA645W for $200 CA. Looking at the photos it seems the condition is OKAY. Is this a fair/good price for this camera?</p>
  12. <p>So guys I'm resizing the photo<br> The original photo is 13x13 inches at 300 dpi.<br> <img src="http://i67.tinypic.com/34fbcy9.jpg" alt="" /><br> Let's say I want to make a 27x27 inches print. Do I change the Width and Height to 27 and manually change the resolution to 200 pi? <br> <img src="http://i68.tinypic.com/w71mqv.png" alt="" /></p> <p>Just making sure I'm doing this right. </p>
  13. <p>I'm trying to scan a shot from my medium format film using an epson V500.<br /> From this file I want to make a 40x40 (inches) print. At what DPI should I scan my file?<br /> I checked an online calculator and it tells me in order to make a 40x40 print at 240 dpi, I need to have a file that is 9600x9600 pixels. In order to get such a file I have to input 4800 DPI into epson software for scanning which gives me a file that is 331MB. Am I doing this right? <br /> Thanks</p> <p> </p>
  14. <p>Thank you so much guys. <br> Very helpful. <br> The store requires me to mount my print. Now all the prints they have in their store is mounted on plywood. I assume that would be a very bad option since it ruins the print after a while (it's not acid free and the chemicals get into the print) If my work is going into people's houses it should be of good quality. My work has been exhibited before so I don't want it get a bad reputation just to make more money.<br> I'm trying to find alternatives and gatorfoam backing or acrylic facemouting seem to be the best option but still very expensive. Do you guys have any other suggestions for mounting and laminating my print? <br> By the way I live in Canada, so the suggestions about US based print stores won't be any good. </p>
  15. <p>Thank you for all the helpful tips<br> Just to give you an idea, this is the photo I have to work with. (screenshot attached to this thread)<br> <img src="http://i64.tinypic.com/25k562o.png" alt="" /><br> I have two options. Reshoot the whole thing, which makes me worried because I did this back in 2014 and I'm not sure if I can achieve the same results. I had a hard time setting up flashes and everything and to be honest I don't remember how I setup exactly. <br> The second option is to print at 40x40 and hope for the best. But since my other works have been exhibited, and have great quality, I don't want to make my work seem cheap by selling a pixelated work. <br> I have never done a test print the way you guys told me to do so. So do I just enlarge the photo to a 40x40 in photoshop and crop a section of it and print it on a 8x10 paper? Is that how it works? <br> Also since I mostly shoot film and scan the negatives, I'm not that great with photoshop and resizing images. I usually have to make images smaller to print, never bigger. How do I do enlarge my image so that is the best it can get at 40x40. </p>
