1. I am replacing a Tamron 70-300 lens. I was interested in the Nikon 70-300 but it doesn't seem to be compatible with my D70 as it is DX
 2. I need to replace my zoom lens for the D70 and need the 300mm length. I am thinking about buying the Nikon 55-300 AF-s ED VR because it fits my modest budget. Any thoughts?
 3.
Thanks for all the feedback from everyone. The race cars I shoot do not stop when working on pan shots. They are moving from right to left or vs versa depending on what part of the track I am standing at. Sometimes the cars do move slightly towards or away from the camera while moving L to R , or R to L . I enjoy making pan shots at 1/60th of a second in order to blur the background and alow the wheels to blur. the challenge is to hold the image steady in the view finder while panning. I have found it almost impossible to get a sharp in forcus image at 1/30 of a sec or slower.
My question was intended to provoke responces on the best auto fucus set up on my Nikon D70 which it did and I am thankful for. I alos realize that depth of field is important in order to get the largest part of the car in focus. I need to reshearch for my digital camera as I have years of experience while film but am a relative newby for digital.

 4.
A bigger issue may be how fast the lens can focus. What lens are you using?
I am using a Nikon DX AF-S 55-200 mm zoom lens. Admittedly a low end lens but it's what I can afford.
Very nice shot BTW

 5.
I recently bought a used D70 my first digital slr. I am a little unsure about the auto focus mode that would be best for taking shots of race cars. I like to do pan shots at 1/60th of sec shuttler and head on high shuttle speed shots. What would be be the best auto focu mode for this use?
