1. Hey, I was using a Braun hobby 17b flash and yes I can see through the viewfinder but there is not LED display even tho the camera is on. The shutter will also not fire.
 2.
I'm considering repairing the camera in order to replace the damaged electronics. Would anyone be able to guide me through the process or which parts of the camera would be damaged by the incorrect use of a flash?

 3.
Hey David,
Yeah I'm talking about 35mm and with the naked eye the scans look high quality, the grain is sharp on my monitor and the prints would be no larger than A4 size, most likely 5x7" album prints.

 4.
Since I cannot make color prints in my dark room, I send out all my color film rolls for development where they get returned as negatives and a CD contained the scanned negatives in JPEG format of 2941 x 1960 resolution. I would like to make prints of some of these photos to have in physical form and my local photo store offers both printing from digital files and printing from negatives. Would printing from the JPEG scans yield worse quality prints than from the negatives? I do know that the scans are corrected by the developer when I send them out if they are too dark for example so I'm afraid that some prints would turn out too dark if printed from the negatives rather than the JPEGs. I also believe that printing from the files would end up being cheaper therefore that is my plan however my question is whether this would mean a decrease in quality of the prints compared to printing straight from the negatives or will it be unnoticeable due to the high quality of the scans?

Thanks in advance,
Jacek

 5. Unfortunately that seems to be it. Any point in trying to repair or is it done for good? Were the lens and power winder affected or can I still sell those off to cover some of the cost?
 6.
I just got a second A1 after the first not working and 20 minutes out of the box, this one doesn't seem to want to function further either. I bought the camera with a 50mm FD lens and A1 Power winder. At first everything worked just as it should with metering information on the viewfinder and the shutter firing with no problems. I then attached the A2 power winder to the bottom of the camera to test it out and it worked well. I set the camera down for a few minutes and decided to try attaching a hotshoe flash from a previous camera which has worked with a previous A1. The flash was slightly more difficult to fit into the hotshoe but finally slid in and as I got ready to try firing the shutter (with the power winder still attached), I noticed there was no longer any display in the viewfinder albeit the camera being on and the viewfinder being on. I then noticed that I am unable to fire the shutter or see any information on the viewfinder no matter what I detached, pressed or took out. I tried replacing the battery, re-cocking the lever with the double exposure, using the bulb setting but nothing would once again display information in the viewfinder or let me fire the shutter. Note that when I use the battery check button, the LED flashes as it should but nothing gets displayed. Did I somehow fry the camera's electronics with the flash or power winder? I used 1.2V AA batteries for the winder instead of the 1.5v as illustrated on the bottom simply to check if its working but I doubt this would cause a big issue like this. Any help is greatly recommended, I would really like to finally have an A1 that works without constantly having to trouble shoot.
Thanks in advance,
Jacek

 7.
I'll try new batteries when I get the chance, thanks Ed.
@Thomas, if you're referring to the stop-down lever then it is not pushed into the lens. As a matter of fact I am unable to engage it with the lens on, it won't go all the way in. If I take the lens off I can engage it and see the red dot. I am not sure why it does not engage all the way, could this be related to the problem? Another thing I've noticed is that it takes a good amount of force to twist the lens off while pressing the lens release button if that's relevant.

 8.
Hey Tim,
I've already read the manual and unfortunately all that is stated in it is to use the double exposure lever which doesn't fix the problem for me. I have read about other people having this problem online but can't find a solution. Some say it's related to the camera's circuit and that a repair is needed in which case I'd choose to return the camera to the seller which would be a shame because I was hoping to get it working.

 9.
I recently bought a Canon A-1 along with a 50mm kit FD lens on eBay and it was said to be in fully working condition however whenever I try to operate the camera with the lens set on the A setting, I am unable to take a picture. For example, if I set the lens aperture ring to A and attempt to set a shutter speed in Tv mode, I will get an error message in the viewfinder displaying "EEEE EE". I have tried solving this issue by pushing in the double exposure lever and while cocking the film advance lever halfway will display the correct information on the viewfinder, I am still unable to fully press down on the shutter and take a picture. If I continue to cock the film advance lever all the way, I once again get the error message. The same thing happens in Av mode and the Program mode. The only way I am able to actually fire the shutter is by taking the lens off the A setting and manually adjusting the aperture ring while setting the shutter speed using the AT dial however I would like to be able to use the automatic program mode as well as aperture and shutter priority modes. I hope someone can help me with this issue since I am completely new to this camera.

Jacek
