  1. Joe, my best guess is that the 450 volt power supplies were for a few of the Strobonars that ONLY worked with the 510 volt power pack. I make my own power packs-I get a boost transformer off Ebay and other part there and off Amazon and away I go. I'm switching over to Li-ion batteries to cut down the weight and shorten recycle times. I figure power transistors have been much improved in 40 years or so.
  2. Joe, I checked Ebay and they have a AC adapter for the 890/892 that shows a DC output of 360 volts.
  3. Gary, I'm thinking of building a high voltage power pack for a Strobonar 892s.
  4. Okay, 1) Does anyone know the voltage of the battery in the Permacad Pak-6 volts-12 volts? 2) Does anyone know the polarity of the power cord-IE what pin is positive and which pin is negative? Also the polarity of the pins in the jack on the power pak?
  5. Well, considering I paid a princely $14 for it.... My best guess it that the 1/140 is a misprint on the instruction sheet. I gave up on it anyway and now use a homemade 30 foot sync cord.
  6. Afraid Joe hit the nail on the head. I had the same idea years back and couldn't find a LASCAR or LA SCR anyplace.
  7. Bebu and Rodeo Joe are right. I do hummingbird photography in the spring and summer and I wondered why I missed shots I was sure I had. The cheapo RF flash trigger I'd gotten off Ebay has a 1/140th of a second processing delay (as per the makers specs). As a hummingbird flies at a max speed of around 30 MPH, it means the hummer could fly 3-4 inches before the flash triggered. That's just enough for a hummingbird to get all or part of the way out of the frame. After researching the speed of electricity thru wires ( never could find an exact figure!) I made myself a 25 foot sync cord out of 16 gauge wire as the speed of electricity thru a wire is about 80% of the speed of light. My number of good shots climbed a bit once I started using the sync cord.
  8. Stsadassad, If you check Ebay, you can find older Vivitar, Soligor and 1-2 other brand 600 mm and 800mm preset T-mount lenses. I paid $175 for mine back it the late 1990's.
  9. One of the older pro's I met had a good idea for handling the relatives. He'd get his group shots and then loudly announce " Okay, family & guests...you have 2 minutes to take pictures before the next setup-I'm timing it!" if you lingered, he'd push you out of the way ! A bit rude but it seemed to work. Hector, I had one old lady at a wedding, come up and grab my arm and tell me the pictures I was taking were s**t. Amazing how she could see what was on unprocessed film! Later she started hassling me claiming I was drinking on the job-yeah I was-water.! I finally told the best man to tell the bride & groom that if she bothered me once more, I was walking out and under the terms of my contract, they would get NO pictures. She got seated in the back of the hall with a family member keeping an eye on her post haste. You need to make it clear to the couple that you work for them and you don't work for random idiots how come up and want a picture.
  10. I just keep thinking that O.Winston Link would have loved to have that in the 1950's when he was photographing steam trains at night!
  11. Gary, found 2 of the cords you need. go check out Ebay seller f.sherfy
