  1. https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/fw/521.html Changes from “C” Firmware Version 1.51 to 1.60 • GNSS module firmware update is now available. Note: The second update is not necessary if the GNSS module's firmware “G” is already 0.17, as with which version, the improvement has already been made. Note: Refer to “GNSS Module Firmware Update” for updating procedures. • The firmware for the GNSS module has been updated. - Improved acquisition performance when used in certain areas where the quasi-zenith satellite “QZSS” can be acquired. • Changed the default values for the following settings displayed when connecting wirelessly: - Encryption keys - The password displayed after the camera's default settings are restored
  2. I do have a set of JIS screwdrivers. The FTn finders I have appear to be accurate and working. I've only tested by comparing to my DSLR meter. I thought that since I'd be sending the older meter for service anyway, I'd send the FTn's as well for a CLA. I believe the conversion to use modern batteries is simply a matter of recalibrating the meter to account for the different voltage.
  3. Unless I get better suggestions I'll be sending the meter heads here: https://www.lezotcameras.com/shop/repair/ They currently have a six week turnaround time, they are also able to convert the meters to use modern silver oxide batteries (and meter accurately).
  4. I already have a couple handheld meters. There are shops out there can can repair and properly calibrate the Photomic meter heads, just a matter of finding the best one with a good turnaround time. Your suggestion makes sense from a practical viewpoint. As a collector/user of vintage gear, not so much.
  5. Thanks. Steve has done some work for me in the past, but he told me today he doesn't work on the Nikon F metering heads.
  6. Hello, I'm looking for recommendations for repair shops in the USA that can service Nikon F Photomic Meter heads. I have two Ftn heads that are functional but may need calibration. I have an early "bullseye" head that doesn't function, that I would like to function. All three are in pristine cosmetic condition, and all three I'd like to have converted to use modern batteries. Thanks
  7. I’ve also been told that if the motor stops working and/or is squeaky, often it can be revived be exercising the manual focus ring back and forth a number of times. It was described to me as similar to a brake rotor on a car. When it’s been sitting for a long time you get oxidation built up on the surface, once you start driving it wears off and the surface is clean again. There was a member on another forum with a 600mm f/4 that had a dead (or so we thought) motor. I suggested he try exercising it before sending it for service. Sure enough it came back to life and he was very grateful to have saved a lot of money!
  8. They were able to still source parts directly from Nikon. I was going to post a screen shot of their webpage which states that was the case. I came upon this unfortunate news instead 😥
  9. Check out the MF-24! https://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf4/filmbacks/MF24/index.htm
  10. Add AF Zoom-Micro Nikkor ED 70-180mm F4.5-5.6D to that list. One of my favorites!
  11. It gets used a couple times a month. If you do a Google search for "Nikon 17-55mm stiff zoom ring" it appears to be a common issue with this lens. Some have said it's part of the lens design. Mine isn't impossible to turn, but it certainly isn't what I'd call buttery smooth either.
  12. Hi Folks, I posted this question in another forum and didn't really get any helpful input so I thought I'd try here. Thanks. My 17-55mm has a bit of a stiff zoom ring. I am planning to lubricate it by following the instructions in this "how to". http://www.benmlee.com/Digital_Camera/17-55_Zoom_Ring_Lube.htm I have the correct tools and feel confident in my ability to perform this task. My question is regarding the proper grease to use. I was able to find a copy of the 17-55mm service manual which specifies NPC GE-8 grease for the cam ring and sliders. Any ideas where I can source a small amount of this grease or the equivalent? I want to make sure I'm using the correct lubrication. I noticed that many of the lens greases available on ebay and Amazon are lighter and are more for focus helicoids on manual focus lenses. Suggestions appreciated.
  13. Pliobond works quite well for reattaching the camera coverings. It's what I use and so do many of the repair shops.
  14. Oil on the aperture blades. Very common problem with this lens. I had mine cleaned twice by APS, and did it once myself. The problem still returned. I sold the lens and replaced it with the 35mm f1.8G ED FX which is a better optic anyway!
