I found a small quite spot away from the many other photographers at the lake that evening and was able to create this image in almost complete solitude.As I scouted for a location I was drawn to the calciumed shoreline formation leading into the water and the wonderful color of the sky that was reflecting so brillantly in the lake. I wanted to highlight those two elements in the final composition so I choose a wide angle lens in order to make the foreground a strong focal point and allowed it to lead into the reflections on the water's surface.I made a number of exposure in both vertical and horizontal orientations but like the vertical images best as it elimenated any "dead" spots in the background of the images where there were no tufa formations.Nikon D7000Nikon 18-200 VRII lensPolarzing FilterCokin 2-Stop Grad ND FilterTonal Adjustment in Adobe Photoshop CS5Nik Color Eflex Pro; Copyright: Copyright 2013 Edward Mendes / Edward Mendes Photography. Morning Graze

    Artist: Edward Mendes; Exposure Date: 2013:10:05 08:25:51; ImageDescription: While photographing the aspen groves that almost encompass the small village of Aspendale I spotted five horses grazing among the trees. I made my way to the grove where the horses were enjoying their morning and waited as this beautiful pinto separated herself from the group, giving me an opportuniy for this image.   6. Artist: Edward Mendes; Exposure Date: 2013:09:24 05:09:13; ImageDescription: I wasn't planning on photographing the famed Moulton barn on Mormon Row in Grand Teton National Park by starlight but as usually I arrived well before sunrise and decided to make the most of the morning instead of staying warm in the car.I wanted to show as much of the sky as possible so I choose a wide angle composition, which also made manual focusing much easier as I was able to simply set the lens on infinity and have confidence that everything would be sharp. The half moon was at my back hitting the front face of the barn and helped to exposure it a bit.I've tried a few different croppings of the image, mostly taking out some of the foreground, however they don't seem to work for me as well as this uncropped version as the ratio of the images becomes a bit awkward, obviously cropped but not quite a panoramic. Tilting the camera upward and incorporated more sky and less foreground in the original composition may have been a nice alternative but of course hindsight is 20/20. As it it I enjoy the image very much.; Copyright: Copyright 2013 Edward Mendes / Edward Mendes Photography. All rights reserved.   10. Artist: Edward Mendes; ImageDescription: Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine fresh water lake in the United States and is known for having the cleanest water as well. The lake is filled with numorous sweping views but none more beautiful then Emerald Bay, with it's tree lined shores and pictureste island in it's center.I've driven around the lake many times and knew exactly where I wanted to setup. I arrived well before sunrise and took my time setting up and composing the image, all the while watching the light and color both in the sky and reflecting off the still water.I knew I wanted to capture as much color reflecting off the water as possible so I would be making the exposure just prior to sunrise while the most color was in the sky and being picked up by in the water. Because of this no light would be coming over the crest of the mountians so the tress around the lake would be silhouetted, acting as a frame to highlight the color in the sky and water.   11. Artist: Edward Mendes; ImageDescription: I never get enough of the Big Sur coast in Central California; it’s just one of those amazing places where you can continue to make new photographs for a lifetime. Which is good for me because this is one of my favorite places in the world and one that I come back to many times a year, either for family get-aways or to teach photography workshops?I was scouting locations before the start of one of workshops and decided to stop by my favorite sea arch at Soberanes point. The prior few days had been overcast but the cloud system had finally started breaking up and moving out of the area so I knew I had a chance to get some nice colorful clouds and some soft light on the north facing side of the arch.As always I arrived well before sunset to scout the location and choose my favorite composition, after a number of different compositions I choose this as the one I would stick with and began the wait for the light to come along. I made a number of exposures both vertical and horizontal trying to capture different wave action against the arch and the coastline, making things extra difficult were the high winds that slightly shaking the tripod, making this one of the few sharp images from the evening.Mamiya M64545mm LensFuji Velvia 100Polarizing FilterCokin 2-Stop Grad ND FilterBogen / Monfrotto Tripod and head; Copyright: Copyright 2010 Edward Mendes / Edward Mendes PhotographyThis image may not be used for any purpose without the written consent of Edward Mendes; Software: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Windows;
  12. Artist: Edward Mendes; ImageDescription: I had been waiting to take this image for two or three years, but had never been in the area at the right time. Either the light was bad, no clouds, no sun, fog etc. You name it I'd been through it while waiting to make this image. On this day the storm was just breaking and the sun lit the scene for a few moments. Enough time for me to capture a few images. I think it was worth the wait.; Copyright: Copyright Edward Mendes Image may not be used in any form without permission from Edward Mendes/Edward Mendes Photography; Software: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Windows;

  13. Artist: Edward Mendes; ImageDescription: Dogwoods line the banks of the Merced river in Yosemite Valley and the spring blooms coincide with the snow run-off in the high country filling Yosemite's rivers and waterfalls. I captured this image while strolling along the banks of the river, I set up shop after finding this small group of blooms. The day was overcast and the steady wind forced me to make many exposures as I tried to time the image between wind gusts. The image was made with a Mamiya 645M, 80mm lens, and a polarizing filter on Fuji Velvia 50 film.; Copyright: Copyright 2011 Edward Mendes / Edward Mendes PhotographyThis image may not be used for any purpose without the written consent of Edward Mendes; Software: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Windows;
  14. Artist: Edward Mendes; ImageDescription: I made my annual spring trip to Yosemite in search of blooming Dogwoods and instead was greeted by a rain storm. Towards the end of the day I made my way to one of my favorite views of the valley in the hopes that the clouds would break. My prayers were answered in a very colorful and dramatic way as the setting sun put on a very impressive but short display of color. I made the image with my Mamiya M645, 45mm Lens, Polarizing Filter, Cokin 2-Stop Grad ND Filter and Bogen Tripod on Fuji Velvia 50 Film.; Copyright: Copyright 2011 Edward Mendes / Edward Mendes PhotographyThis image may not be used for any purpose without the written consent of Edward Mendes; Software: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Windows;
