1. Have an F6, and regularly use ECN-2 film. I'll have to turn on the between-frame imprinting and test. My guess would be that it won't punch through the remote - or would but be extremely faint? Thinking the data back lcd is probably very dim so as not to blow out and halate the surrounding image.
 2.
Thank you Edward for the detailed explanation! What would you recommend my settings be for maximum optical resolution and color reproduction? I've noticed in SF it's pretty hit or miss on the white balance.
I'd love to to get Nikonscan running on my machine, but it's about six generations too new, so I feel like I'm stuck with SF unless I were to buy a separate old PC to run the scanner. I have to admit... considering the ample technical power under the hood in SF, the user interface is absolutely awful and feels very "beta" and unfinished. So perhaps thats part of my problem: misunderstanding the fundamentals of how to make the software pull a quality scan!
The sample in my last post came out to a 37mb tiff file, compared to the noritsu jpeg @ 3.7mb.

 3.
My post with the cherry blossoms was scanned on the Coolscan IV. But my last post with the image of the guy standing in front of mountains compares a lab Noritsu vs. the Coolscan (the second set).

 4.
Thanks guys. I missed that the original comparison photo was Gold 200. Having gone back and re-scanned a frame that I originally had scanned at the lab: aside from being a lot brighter and greener (well, technically the lab is probably too magenta - the Nikon's skin tones look a lot more accurate to how he looks in real life), the Nikon doesn't seem to exhibit any more noise/grain/dyeclouds than what the lab sent back... Looks like a bit more dynamic range too. :)

Leica CL, 40mm Summicron, Portra 400.
Lab:

Coolscan IV:

I guess I've just been way more spoiled by 6x7 than I realized...
I'm also going to take the advice to try reversal film. Actually about to head out right now and pick up my first roll of RVP 50 - very excited to see how it turned out! It'll be the first slide film I've shot since the early 2000's Lomography phase. Which makes it my first non x-pro roll of slides. ;)
Can anyone share and/or point to some best practices with using this scanner and Silverfast? Best output PPI, any color or exposure quirks, etc? I literally plugged this thing in and started feeding film.

 5.
What am I doing wrong? Got a NOS Coolscan IV still in it's packaging. Everything seems to function very well, running Silverfast 8.8.
Everything I scan comes out looking like 800 speed film that's been pushed.
Here's an example @100% of Kodak Gold 400 (+1EV):

Scanning in 4x6 @ 300dpi, NegaFix set to Gold. CCR on/Auto. iSRD on.
And here's a comparatively very clean looking scan of the same film from the same scanner, posted by a user here: http://www.pbase.com/maderik/image/111024809/original

I've got the exact same results out of Portra 160 and a roll of Ektar. Leica CL or R6, usually set +1EV. Those stocks should be extremely fine grain, especially with the extra exposure!
Any thoughts/tips on how to get the most out of this thing? So far I'm very surprised how much color noise it's picking up.
