1.
I have noticed the same thing with my variable filter.

 2.
Try again - the first shows the tunnel

 4.
In the Nikon line, a Nikkor 50/2 H.C converted to AI. I formerly used it on a D200 before I gave that camera to my grandson, and now I use it on a Fuji X-T1. I use the Metabones Speed Booster which, with the usual 1.5 multiplier for an APS-C camera, gives the lens the field of view of a normal 50mm lens on full frame with the added advantage of an extra stop of light for focusing.. Why do I like the lens so much? It's hard to say - I just seem to prefer the pictures that I take with it to those taken with my other lenses. It's probably a combination of a number of lens characteristics that I find pleasing. Plus, I like manual focus, and the split image focusing with the Metabones and the f/1.4 make manual focusing extremely easy.

 5.
You certainly can use this lens for landscapes. I have a 50mm f/2 (old manual focus) lens that I have used probably more than any other for landscapes. I usually use f/11 as a good balance between suppressing aberrations and not running into serious diffraction problems while at the same time getting a reasonable depth of field. And, as Hector advises, use a tripod whenever you can. I suggest that you do some tests of your own, trying different apertures to see if real world sharpness at these different values meets your personal standards.

 6.
Another Summar shot. This is at f/2 and darkened quite a bit. Swirly bokeh, anyone?

 7.
I think that it depends upon whether you regard a corporation as an entity, with the singular verb, or as a group of individuals, with the plural verb. The choice depends upon the country of the writer. The UK usage is, I believe, to prefer the plural form, and the US the singular.

 8.

...is there anyone out there that wants to manually focus but yet wants a split image to do it?

Fuji X-T1 + Metabones Speed Booster + Nikkor 50/2 converted to AI. Absolutely superb manual focusing with either the center spot or dual image mode.

 9.
You might want to start with Bob Atkins' article:

http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/acadia_trip_report.html

Another source is:

http://www.acadia.ws/index.htm

Acadia is our favorite place to visit / photograph. There are many good spots for coastal photography along the path beside the loop road and photography of sweeping vistas from Cadillac Mountain. Do hike some of the carriage roads - the one near Upper Hadlock Pond is especially good. Somewhat out of the way is Beech Mountain, but it is well worth a visit.

Time? Somewhere around Columbus Day is good for autumn color.

Enjoy!

 10.
If landscapes are your interest, Pemaquid Point on the Maine coast is superb. It's not far north of Portland. And, if you're willing to travel a little further, Acadia is unbeatable for its combination of sea, forest and mountains. The carriage roads and trails make for great hiking, too. If you do get to Acadia, be sure to go to Beech Cliffs. Enjoy your trip!

 11.
Thanks, folks. I think that Elaeagnus umbellata is it, but I've taken Antonio's suggestion and put in a query to Penn State's botany department.

Don

 12.
Please help ID this bush / shrub which is currently blooming in Western Pennsylvania. The leaves are somewhat more olive in tone than what is shown here. It is quite aromatic, but with a musky fragrance rather than a sweet one.

Thank you.

Don
