  1. Just recently I broke out a hard drive that had some old photos on it. The photo was from 2007 on the BRP. It looked pretty good so I clicked on the RAW file to start the PP. It was a little crooked so I did what you do to straighten and it straightend just fine but left faint verticle lines throughout the entire photo. I hit undo and the lines disappeared and it went back to being crooked. I have never had this problem editing any other photo so I assume the photo is no longer any good. So, just how long will a photo last on a hard drive that is kept in storage? This photo has not been on this HD since 2007. It was first put on a 500GB HD. Later it was moved to a 1TB drive and again later moved to a 2TB drive. It is on 2 other HD's and I have not checked those drives yet. But, the picture on the HD in question is no longer workable. Also, the photo in question was taken with a Nikon D200. It seems like all of my old photos taken with the D200 have not aged well. I do not know if that has anything to do with it. Obviously I need to fix this problem for future photos so any pointers will be appreciated. PS- I keep all of my photos on 3.5 internal HD's which I hook up to computer via a single or dual bay drive. The Hard drives are stored in Orico padded cases. They pretty much stay at temps between 68-74.
  2. Never use live view, I guess it is more like one second. Right after I take a shot I can say 0ne Mississippi, before the shot comes up. I am using Sandisk Extreme. I also use my CF as main card and SD as Backup. And I shoot RAW uncompressed.
  3. I have had my new, used D800E for about a month and I am loving it. There is just one thing that bugs me and I think I know the answer but just want to make sure. With every other camera I own when I take a shot it instantly appears on my LCD. With the D800E, it takes 1-2 seconds before it shows on the LCD. Is this just a normal lag due to the 36MP sensor, or have I got a problem? Thanks
  4. B&H has wonderful customer service. I had an RMA 2 hours after posting here. I had looked into KEH but they will not tell you how many shutter actuation's the body has on it. There is no way I am paying $900.00 for a D800 with 200,000. shots on it. They say it does not matter, I think it does.
  5. I want a good landscape camera but much to poor to afford currant models. So I first tried a used Nikon D800E used. I bought this camera from the most reputable dealer in the US, It had a crack in the body. From where the crack was, easy to see it fell lens first onto hard surface. I sent it back and decided to go with the D810, refurbished. Got it yesterday, it will not read ANY CF cards. I will be sending it back today. So just wondering about this K-1. How is this body as far as dependability. Is the shutter as strong as a Nikon, will it last 200,000 shots. If something breaks on it after warranty expires, can I buy the parts and fix it myself. Nikon does not sell parts, other than exterior parts. Also, what is a good wide angle lens for this. I shoot waterfalls, lakes, mountain vistas and astrophotography. Thanks
  6. Shun, that was the first thing I did. Everything looked good.
  7. Yeah will be sending it back. The whole thing started 3+ weeks ago when I bought a used D800E from B&H. The camera they sent me had a 3/4" crack in the front above lens mount where screw is. Easy to see it was caused by front impact from previous owner. Notified them of it immediately. I actually ordered the D810 a day before B&H even refunded my money from the 800E. I am done with it, was not meant to be.
  8. Get ERR on LCD. Try to format anyway but will not. Cannot format memory card. Card may be defective. Insert another card.
  9. Just got my new reurbished D810. Put a brand new SD card in, then a brand new CF card in and got an Error on the CF card. Tried 3 other CF cards, got errors on all. Any ideas?
  10. I am thinking about purchasing one of these two systems. I am just worried about the polarizing filter that comes with each. So if anyone out there uses either of these systems can you tell me how you feel about the polarizing filter. I have heard that the Nisi uses plastic instead of glass on the polarizing filter. That I can not do. Being that both products are made and designed in China I am guessing that the Haida would be about the same as the Nisi. So please let me know how you feel about the polarizing filter, Thanks, Derek
  11. I am trying to figure out what bulbs to use for continuous lighting setup. I thought this was going to be easy, just get some 5500k LED corncob style bulb and be done with it. Those bulbs get horrible reviews! They are quite exspensive and do not last long. The bulbs will either go into soft boxes or behind umbrellas and used for product photography. So please tell me what has worked well for you, I appreciate any help. Derek
