2.
I've had an AN-1 black leather strap with nylon inside since 1965, and still going strong. I do gently treat the leather once a year. Nice, soft and flexible, the best Nikon strap or of any other brand for hand holding. Wraps nicely around wrist, and Arca style L plates. Originally used on a Leica M4, then Nikon F2, F3, F4, D200, D2x, D3, D4. It carried the D4 with the 80-200 with no problem. Carried with strap in a basket fashion looped around front of lens - never hanging the camera from the neck! Just used to wrap the strap around my hands. Now on a Lumix GX8.
I looked for another one recently, and an Etsy store (in North Babylon, NY) advertised as vintage leather, but it was the cheap leatherette one, which indeed will break/crack over time. I think it was an honest mistake on the Etsy vendor, but still got ripped off to the tune of $23. Leatherette straps are about $8 on eBay and Etsy.
