Why did Canon change mounts when going to EOS from FD?

"PS, I now can use ALL my R, FL and FD lenses on my RF mount cameras giving them new life and IS through IBIS." Funny. I now can use ALL my R, FL and FD lenses, AI, AIS and EF (yes, canon EF) on my Z mount cameras giving them new life and IS through IBIS.
