1. Awesome lens with a new motor replaced in 2015. Barely used since the motor replacement since I got the 200-500 which is much easier to travel with although nowhere near as sharp. Not to mention that the TC can barely be used with the 200-500 whereas the 500 f4 works like a champ even with the TC. Comes with aquatech soft hood and the original Nikon storage trunk (CT-502) Glass is clean. Cosmetically it has a few blemishes and some paint loss as is evident from the pictures. I spent ~ $500 on the repair and this lens would be as good as a new one and will serve you for many many years to come. Included in the price is an Aquatech Lens Hood. I bought this brand new when I purchased the 500mm F4: Asking $2200 Net to me. I am open to trades with a Nikon Z6+ cash.
2. FS is a Nikon D3 that I purchased about 4 years back from a fellow user. It's a solid solid camera that has served me extremely well and still does so. Body+cosmetics would probably classify as KEH BGN condition (definitely looks used). But I have never had any issues with performance. Included is the OEM charger+3batteries. I am including 3 batteries. The battery ratings are 1, 3 and 4. Even the one rated 4 holds charge very well. Detailed pictures available here. I have tried to highlight every blemish and you can get a really good idea of the cosmetics by looking at the pics: https://flic.kr/s/aHskM9Rq4n. I inherited all of the cosmetic issues when I bought this camera and I have taken really good care of it. Shutter actuations ~126,000. So the shutter on this guy has a long way to go. Price is NET to me.
3. Selling my trusted AFSII 500mm F4 lens. I just don't use it enough. Given it's weight, it's difficult to travel with and I do most of my shooting when I am traveling. I replaced the AFS motor back in 2015, after which I would have shot maybe 100 photos with this lens, so it's got a long long way to go. Comes with a Aquatech soft hood. I don't have the original hood or the trunk case. Asking for $3000+shipping+paypal. Detailed pictures here: Nikon AFS II 500 mm F4 - Google Drive https://www.flickr.com/photos/smiling_buddha/albums/72157661002177026 Cosmetically I would rate it a 7/10. It does have paint loss and blemishes (will share pics). But mechanically and optically it's flawless.
4. Nikon AFSII 500mm F4 Price: $3,000.00 Payment method: PayPal Item condition: 8 Well used - may exhibit "dings" or finish marks Hate to do this, but this magnificent baby has been warming my cabinet. I have owned it for almost 4 years and it just does not see enough use for me to justify keeping it. What is awesome is I got it serviced by Nikon in October 2015 and it has a brand new SW motor and also has a newly serviced helicoid. I can share receipts to prove the same. I have not used the lens even once after the repair. Glass is clean. Cosmetically it has a few blemishes and some paint loss as is evident from the pictures. The rubber filter ring also has some minor tears...nothing that impacts it's functionality. Pictures of the lens: https://www.flickr.com/photos/smiling_buddha/albums/72157661002177026 More pictures and RAW files shot with the lens: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1EDp2YOwvK7_2FnK1w_aC_62WPbXNYEPB I spent ~ $500 on the repair and this lens would be as good as a new one and will serve you for many many years to come. 5. I can attest to that as well. The key is patience. I paid <$400 for my 120 Macro Nikkor about a year or so back. I am in the market for the 65, but am waiting for the right price. The most recent one I tracked went for <$600 with the original Nikon F adapter.
6. Edwin, Thanks so much!! @rodeo_joe: I agree. I already have the 120mm Macro Nikkor and all I can say is it's a fantastic lens. Though I have not compared it with the Apo-Rodagon. I was looking for the manuals mainly because I wanted to get details of bellows extension and working distance. I have been struggling with the former with my PB4.
7. Edwin, Thanks so much! That is exactly what I was looking for. For now, I am going to download all the pictures you have uploaded. Do you know where I can purchase a hard or soft copy of the Multiphot supplementary tables? Thanks again. Avi
8. I am looking for specs like working distance, bellows extension required for a given magnification etc.
9. Hello, I was looking for operating and technical specification manuals for the Macro Nikkor series of lenses: especially the 65mm and the 120mm. Would appreciate it if anyone who has it can send me an electronic copy. Thanks. Avi
10. Hi Mark/All, I just purchased the Arca Swiss Z1 SP Monoball. So will try and figure out where the sweet of the 200-500+Nikon D500 is on that ball-head and report back. Thanks a lot for the advice. Avi
11. thanks guys. I am going to try and see if I can purchase an Arca-Swiss Z1 SP monoball. It seems to fit the bill in terms of my weight requirements and its load capacity. I wish I could take my Wimberley, but at 4+ lbs, I know I am going to regret carrying it when I am hiking several miles everyday. Not to mention, I will have other gear, food, water, etc. with me to carry as well.
12. Hello, I am going on a trip to Alaska next month and am looking for a light weight head for my Nikon 200-500 telephoto lens. I came across the Acratech Long Lens head and I think it fits the bill as far as form factor and weight is concerned. It seems to be a good compromise between a full fledged Gimbal and a ball-head. Does anyone have any experience with this combo? I already have the original Wimberley Gimbal and although it's absolutely fantastic in terms of lens operation, it is pretty big and bulky. I will be going on a camping and hiking trip, so weight is a critical factor for me. I don't think I want to be carrying that with me. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks! Avi
13.
I decided to return the camera and the lens. I am not able to isolate the problem to any one device.
Most of the missed frames were with the 75mm, but I also got 1-2 missed frames with the 50mm. So it could be the body or the lens or a combination of the 2.
Just not worth storing $1200+ in. Coupled with the fact that Mamiya no longer services these cameras, I figured it's simpler to return.
It's a shame given its such a wonderful camera to shoot with. Oh well.....maybe the Nikon D500 will keep me happy instead. :)
Avi

14. Thanks folks. So far I have shot 2 rolls through the 50mm and I encountered the problem just once (vs multiple times with the 75mm). I am going to finish one more roll with the 50 and then switch back to the 75mm and shoot 1 final roll through it. I will try cleaning the contacts thoroughly before mounting the 75 this time to see if it helps. The camera is such a pleasure to use and so quiet! I have never used a camera that makes such little noise in use.
