Realise it's not one of your suggested alternatives but the 24-85 G is worth considering. Produces excellent results on my D800E for "general" photography. Use it more than any other lens despite having a few good ones to choose from. Cheers - Martyn

<p>Always use B+W UV filters on all my lenses unless there's a specific reason to remove them (usually to avoid stacking with a ND or Pol). Rather get crap on a filter than the front element, never had any problems with this. I believe some people disagree... :-) </p>

The latitude/longitude data seems to be fine (which is what the 3 meter figure refers to).</p> <p>The unit also gives a bearing for the direction the lens is pointing - it's that which seems to be both inaccurate & internally inconsistent.</p>

<p>Just got a Aokatec AK-G1s GPS unit to use with my D800. Very pleased with it in general, fits well on the camera & the positional accuracy is better than I expected. Happy to use it just for that.</p> <p>But, the direction data is not so good. I have tried to calibrate it a couple of times & doesn't seem to have helped.</p> <p>Question is, before I spend a lot of time messing about with the compass calibration - how accurate should I expect the direction information to be when the unit is properly calibrated?
