I'd love to see that full screen! I know the head is dark but I'm not sure if you've used a flash a little low which hasn't caught the head. If that's just the light that was, then that's it! Great photo regardless.
  3. Been a while since I was in the Lakes but this could be any of the middle districts, Peaks, Wales or Scotland! Not a knock at all. Nothing "wrong" that I see. As a critique, I'm looking for the point. Why did he take this? This is a gate to a field AND a view of that wet gloomy after-rain maybe about to begin again all day sense and smell (in a photo) so typical of the region. If I feel and smell it then that's pretty good for a photo! It resonates with my memories. I think perspective may be why the gate is in there, but I'm not sure if the photo is really about capturing that moody cloud settled on the hills. As a photo, it's good. Framing using the left tree/overhang may have spoiled the framing for the ridge-line/hill on the left, a little heavy. I wonder if you'd move 3 ft closer if the frame effect would have been lighter and the left ridge more visible. Also the little maybe group of trees to the right. What's there that would have detracted? Don't know. I think that any post you may have used was used well. Keeping things darker is probably very much how it looked and I like that. The grass often pops after a some rain (and it's been raining for at least a few days!). I'd like to know the answer as to why you picked this gate/hill/field/frame. Very British Not sure if this is helpful but a few thoughts (and smells).
