  1. My daughter's teammates (a JV field hockey team, Vermont, USA) saw photos that I took of her at the last game and asked if I had taken photos of them too (I hadn't) and if I could in the future. These are public school athletic fields open to the public. I've recently turned freelance, so I am open to the idea of taking photos for other kids and their parents, but would charge because it's a lot of work, and while I don't have to pay my mortgage by shooting, I'm not going to cheapen the profession either. Because it's paid work, I assume that it is commercial use, and that requires a model release from the parent, preferably prior to shooting, yes? If I'm getting paid, I have every intention to put the images on a future website or in a portfolio of work to attract future customers, or at least have the right to. If getting a release is all that is needed, that's straightforward enough, except that most of the photos I have taken have multiple faces in them (following the action) and so wouldn't that require a release from everyone else that is identifiable as well? If so, that seems unrealistic since there's no efficient way to track down the unnamed opposing team members' parents for releases. I see some other local freelancers selling photos online with multiple faces in the frame so in my mind that means that 1). they've gotten photo releases from everyone, 2). they don't need them from everyone because I have misunderstood something or, 3). they don't care/don't know about model releases. Am I missing something?
  2. Oranjestad, Aruba. Canon 77D and 24mm f/2.8
  3. Canon 77D and 50mm f/1.8. It's that time of year again!
  4. Just got into film, so tried a roll of Tri-X pushed +1, which I just got back today. Canon A-1 and 50mm 1.4
  5. Canon A-1, 50mm 1.4 and Ektar 100. From a trip to Aruba a week ago - tried to capture more of the less photogenic parts of the island.
  6. Canon 77D and either the 100-400 or the 50mm f/1.8. Drank some of the whisky before taking the picture.
  7. My first film camera ever, "new" to me Canon A-1, 50mm f/1.4 on Tri-X.
  8. Late to the party. COVID activity - my girls 8 and 11 were pretending to be teachers and giving math instruction to their dolls. I said I would show up and do school photos. Canon 77d and the latest version of the nifty fifty.
  9. The shop apparently has a website woefully outdated, so what I wanted was gone. Instead, I bought an A-1 online and working through a roll of Tri-X today and this weekend. Having learned to shoot digitally, this is quite the experience. But will keep my eye open for a rangefinder. Seems like a lot of people are headed towards mirrorless and I'm going the other way...;)
  10. Thanks for the input; I'm going to go take a look at it this week. They also have a Canon A-1 similarly priced, so may check that out too. I bet a lot of it will be just the tactile feel of it in the hand.
  11. I currently shoot with a Canon 77D and have never owned my own film camera. A local shop has a Canon IIF EP with 50 f/1.8 priced at $229. I'm interested in film and something different than a SLR; a rangefinder sounds novel and the fact that is has no batteries and requires me to figure out exposure would be an interesting way to fill time while on vacation to Aruba next month. Tell me what I should know, e.g., good camera or not, issues to look out for, how routinely it needs some sort of maintenance, or for that price, should I be looking at something else?
  12. I had mine sent in last summer. Something was showing up in the shots, only listed as "foreign object" on the slip that came back. Over $400.
  13. And another. Learned to get shots of riders in a canter when it was first called for, otherwise the ring soon turned into a dust bowl.
  14. Practicing my equine photo skills this weekend. Tried to keep the 100-400 upwind of the dust. Canon 77D
  15. Catalina went to 64 bit, rendering a lot of older scanners and printers obsolete. For instance, I had a Canon feed scanner that I bought about 5 years ago for $450 and it won't work with Catalina, and Canon considers it obsolete and won't provide updated software (but will be glad to sell me a new scanner). The built in scanner software for a Mac won't run it either. In other words, research every peripheral device you need to continue using before upgrading.
