1.
The "SDM" from the D-FA 15-30 f/2.8 and the D-FA 24-70 f/2.8 is Tamron's USD ring-type motor (and on the 18-270 there should be the corresponding consumer Tamron motor).
Why it's called "SDM"? Because it's an "ultrasonic" piezo motor, just like on the DA*s. Besides that, the motor in these two D FAs has nothing to do with the tiny micromotor from the DA*s.
It's the same as with Canon, where USM is used to denote from the smallest (DA*-like) micromotor to ring-type motors found in their top lenses.

 2.
The "boundary box" aka the cropping frame, the spot metering frame, AF point markings, grid display markings, AF frame markings and electronic level indicators are displayed via a transparent LCD overlay, and they can be disabled.
The "boundary box" aka the cropping frame itself won't appear unless you're shooting in the crop mode. So it cannot cover your subject's eyes - assuming that you like to have your subject into the frame, not outside it.

 3.
Paul, just a minor detail: both the K20D and the K-7 had 14MP Samsung sensors (slightly different versions, due to the introduction of video in the K-7). Otherwise as you say, all other Pentax DSLRs used Sony sensors.
Which is nothing special - it makes no sense and is actually not possible to make everything in house.
