Dan Pullen became interested in photography while in the US Navy when his wife gave him a 35 mm slide camera. Using Kodachrome 65 film he recorded his growing family, their new home and travels. He switched to a Canon SLR with color negative film as they began traveling around North America in a motor home.
Taking a course “The Slot Canyons of Page Arizona” for a week on location with his friend and photography mentor Harry Smith changed his focus from recording travels to creating images. As his daughter Nancy became interested in photography they traveled together to take courses. A notable one was “The Covered Bridges of Southern Vermont” where the focus was on patterns and repetition.
Woodworking is another of his hobbies and he mats and frames his photos.
Switching to digital and improving his equipment he and Nancy began taking a week each year to travel and photograph. They have visited such places as; The Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Niagara Falls, Martha’s Vineyard, The Delaware Water Gap, The Hudson Valley and this year The North Fork of Long Island.
He has been exhibiting his custom framed images locally in Hillsborough and in his Dental Office. In 2014 the partnership of DCPullen and Daughter will be opening a gallery above his office on Highway 206 in Hillsborough NJ.
