BIOGRAPHY
I think a photography class should be a requirement in all educational programs because it makes you see the world rather than just look at it. Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a significant crop (Ansel Adams). (AnselAdams) 'We don't make a photograph with a camera; we bring to the act of photography all the books we have read, the movies we have seen, the music we have heard and the people we have loved.' living in harmony with nature and other people ...will create a better world for all Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise. 'Take nothing but photographs....leave nothing but footprints' Seen in a fortune cookie: Fear is the darkroom where negatives are developed Aspire to inspire before you expire'. A MIND GROWS BY WHAT IT FEEDS ON "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." -Abraham Lincoln 'Sometimes I get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter.' Ansel Adams (I have no doubt that I will continue to make photographs till my last breath.) A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed. -Ansel Adams Photography - It's not about the things you see but the way you see them.

Fairy-tales interest me as a manifestation of pure art, perhaps the very first instance of art detaching itself from real life, and also because - like pure art - they enhance reality, remaking it in their own likeness, separating good from evil, and bringing all fears and terrors to a happy conclusion.

IR VILLA VERSACE Home of the late Gianni Versace--now owned by his sister, Donatella Versace. It is said that Versace considered this his primary residence and when he really wanted to relax and get away, he came here. It is no wonder that his body was brought back to his beloved Lake Como to be buried. The Villa Versace and Villa Passalacqua are neighbors in Moltrasio. ianni Versace owned four luxurious homes by in Milano, New York , Miami and at Moltrasio on Lake Como. Of these, the Villa Le Fontanelle at Moltrasio is the one he loved most. Celebrities and rock stars such as Madonna, Elton John, Sting, Sylvester Stallone and Naomi Campbell were frequent guests at the villa. In an interview, the designer is quoted as saying "the house in Moltrasio is a Proust house, whereas the ones in Milano and Miami are more Batman". That is to say, the Moltrasio villa was a house where he could reflect and contemplate, while life in the others was centered around the future and his work: " the one in Moltrasio is the house which really belongs to me:reflecting a mirror-image of all that I am, for better or worse." The reason for this is , at least in part, because he was so involved in the renovation of Le Fontanelle and its decor. Versace chose every item personally, from the world's auction houses: furniture, paintings, table linens, dinnerware: all in the same pure neo-classical style that graced the villa in 1700.

VILLA CARLOTTA House, staircaises and garden in Italian style built by Marquis Clerici in the XVIII century, partially modified by Count Sommariva according to the Neoclassical style. In the Villa you can admire the original forniture and many fine works of art. Landscape garden laid out by the subsequent owners, the Dukes of Sachsen Meiningen. Wide views on the middle of the lake, Bellagio, the Grignas peaks, the Legnone. The Clericis The building of the Villa was begun in 1690 by the Milanese Marquis Giorgio Clerici (1648 - 1736), an authorative personage at the time of the Spanish and then Austrian domination. The founder of this family was born in 1489 in Domaso, a small town in the north of Lake Como. The Clericis accumulated a great fortune thanks to their long-standing trade of textile merchants. Their social and economic prestige was then increased through a series of royal grants. The beginning of their wealth was due to the silk merchant and bankier Giorgio Clerici (1575-1660), known as Giorgione. He brought and restored the palace Visconti situated in the S. Protaso district (nowadays known as Clerici avenue) in Milan. His first-born Pietro Antonio (1599-1675) was titled as Marquis. His brother Carlo (1615-1677) inhereted numerous palaces in Milan, in Ninguarda and in Brianza area. These fabolous properties were subsequently inhereted by his son Giorgio II who built the Villa of Tremezzo. In 1717 he was nominated as President of the Senate. Once he died and after the death of his son Carlo Francesco and that of that of his grandson Carlo Giorgio (captain and grandee of spain, fallen in a battle near Belgrade under Eugenio's of Savoia arrays), the 21 years old great-grand son Antonio Giorgio (1715-1768) inhereted the immense fortune of his great-grandfather. The construction of the Villa of Tremezzo was completed. Antonio Giorgio, a man of great intelligence and generosity, became Baron of Sozzago, Marquis of Cavenago, Knight of the Golden Fleece, milanese patrician and owner of a regiment of infantry. Devoted to the military career, he was General of Artillery in 1746 and lieutenant Marshal in 1755. He was wounded during the campaign against Frederick the great in 1756 and consequently he laid down his arms to embark on the diplomacy. Antonio Giorgio ordered to Tiepolo the frescos depecting "The Fight of the Sun in the Olympus" of the very large ceiling (about 119 square meters) in the residential palace of the Clerici family in Milan. During his intense existence, Antonio Giorgio dissipated the wealth he had inhereted. He died in 1768. The Palace of Milan became the seat of the law-court and nowadays it belongs to the Italian state, while the Villa Simonetta is a music school. Claudia Bigli Clerici, AntonioGiorgio's daughter, was the last of the Clericis to possess the Villa of Tremezzo. She sold it to Giambattista Sommariva in 1801

IR AMMERSOYEN Ammersoyen Castle was built around 1350 near the Maas river by the Van Herlaer family. It has a rectangular almost square layout of four wings centered around a little courtyard with heavy round towers at its four corners. It shows similarity to other square castles like Helmond Castle, Muiden Castle and the partially remaining Radboud Castle. Ammersoyen Castle is connected to the separate bailey by a bridge and the entire site is moated. In 1386 already the castle was taken by force by Willem van Gulik, the Duke of Gelre. The Dukes of Gelre remained owners of the castle for 25 years. In 1412 Duke Reinald V granted the castle to his bastard son; Willem van Wachtendonk, who in 1424 sold the castle to Johan van Broekhuizen, Lord of Waardenburg. In 1496 the Van Arkel family married into ownership of the castle. This family lived in the castle until 1694. In 1513 the castle was damaged during a siege and following occupation by Burgundian troops lead by Count Hendrik van Nassau. In 1574 the castle was again occupied, this time by Spanish troops. The hasty departure from the castle by the troops of Prince Willem van Oranje kept the castle from any serious damage. In 1590 however the castle was not so lucky; it was gutted by a great fire which left it in ruins. Due to the threat of the 80-Years War the rebuilding of the castle didn't start until 1648. The rebuilding took 19 years. Peculiar enough the castle wasn't rebuild to a 17th century house but to its medieval appearance. Although modernizations were carried out inside, a lot of medieval elements remained behind plaster and bricked up doorways. The existence of Ammersoyen Castle was again threatened in 1672 when French troops invaded the Netherlands, destroying many castles on their path. The last Lord of the Van Arkel family saved the castle by paying a ransom of fl 7000,- to the French troops. This left him in big financial trouble and he died in 1694. After his death the castle was successively owned by several families from the Southern Netherlands (present day Belgium). It wasn't permanently lived in because its owners spent most of their time at their estates in Belgium. The last Lord of Ammersoyen was a Baron Arthur de Woelmont. During 1868 he entertained an English writer; John Box, who wrote a book about the castle called: Chronicles of the Castle of Amelroy or Ammerzode, illustrated with photographs of the castle and its interior. This Baron sold the castle, completely emptied, in 1873 to the Roman Catholic Church of Ammerzoden, presumably after he lost a game of dice with the local priest. The Church then founded a convent in the castle. The moat was filled in and a large chapel was built against and incorporated in the castle. The castles religious use ended abruptly in WW II when the castle was heavily shelled by Allied troops. After the war its remains were used by a local business man as a factory producing washing machines, until 1957 when the "Friends of the Castles of Gelderland"-foundation bought the castle and started an extensive restoration. When the restoration was finished in 1975 the castle was back in its medieval appearance. AMMERSOYEN CASTLE

IR After the famous Battle of Hastings, the Normans constructed their first castle on English soil. It commanded a panoramic view of the sea line as well as the coastal plains of this part of southern England. Today the castle is home to the 1066 story and visitors are taken on a journey to the castle keep where a multi-media display even brings poor King Harold to life. Hastings the old fishing town is a great seaside resort to visit with much to do and see, and a great place for fish and chips.

IR VILLA del BALBIANELLO LENNO COMO (view large) The Villa del Balbianello is a villa in the comune of Lenno (province of Como), Italy, overlooking Lake Como. It is located on the tip of a small wooded peninsula on the western shore of the south-west limb of Lake Como, not far from the Isola Comacina and is famous for its elaborate terraced gardens. The villa was built in 1787 on the site of a Franciscan monastery for the Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. The two towers which can be seen in the picture are the campanili of the convent church. After the cardinalï¾’s death in 1796 Giuseppe Arconati Visconti bought the villa and made improvements to its gardens and the loggia. In the nineteenth century the villa belonged to the Porro-Lambertenghi family. The writer and patriot Silvio Pellico was a visitor in 1819. By the early twentieth century the buildings had fallen into a state of neglect when an American military officer, Butler Ames, purchased and renovated the villa and its garden. In 1974 it was bought by the explorer Guido Monzino (leader of the first Italian expedition to climb Mount Everest), who filled it with rich collections, including artifacts acquired on his expeditions. Monzino, who died in 1988, left the villa to the Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano, the National Trust of Italy.

IR BODIAM CASTLE it was built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, a former knight of Edward III, supposedly at the request of Richard II in order to defend the surrounding area from French invasion. However, recent research suggests that the castle was built more for show than as an effective defense. There is evidence supporting that research, because the walls of Bodiam Castle are only a couple of feet thick. CASTLE

IR LEEDS CASTLE IN KENT Leeds Castle Leeds Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in England and is often referred to as 'the loveliest castle in the World'. Leeds Castle has a chequered history which moves from its construction as an earthwork enclosure with wooden pallisades to a Motte and Bailey castle in the style of a Donjon by William the Conqueror to a fortified stone fortress built by King Edward I (r.1272-1307). William the Conqueror used enforced Anglo-Saxon labour for work on the construction of Leeds Castle. The original wooden castle was replaced by a fortified stone castle in 1119. An important feature of Leeds Castle is its access to the River Len. During the re-construction of Leeds Castle men by King Edward I equipment and building materials were transported by boats to the site of the castle. Once Leeds Castle had been built built fresh supplies, provisions and reinforcements prevented the castle occupants from being starved into submission during siege warfare. The decline of the feudal system saw castles built as fortified strongholds were no longer owned by feudal lords (this was seen as a risk to the monarchy). At this point in history King Henry VIII converted the castle into a Royal palace. Leeds Castle is situated on the River Len where it was built by built on two adjacent islands. The name Leeds originates from the name of a chief minister of King Ethelbert IV ( 856-860) called Ledian ( it is not associated with the city of Leeds! )
