My interest in photography stemmed from the black and white images I favored as a teenager. I liberated some family member's camera and started shooting. For several years I roamed cemeteries and junkyards looking for some sort of strange sense of purpose. Before this fascination in photography developed though, there was a deeper interest in music.
Music won the battle and I pretty much abandoned photography when I moved to San Francisco to pursue a life of rock and roll. Playing music changed my perception of imagery. For one thing working with video opened my eyes to color. Years passed and eventually I gave up the lifestyle and moved out of the city and into a more rural area.
Something was missing. Namely, a creative pursuit. With the advent of digital photography I found my outlet. My first digital PNS lasted about 6 months. I upgraded to the 10D and used that for several years. Of course, I fell in love with Photoshop at the same time and learned there are all sorts of things you can do with that program to enhance your vision. I like using it, but I have since become more of a purest.
Currently, I just opened a new studio in Auburn, California. Since the economy is so bad I wonder if I made the right decision. I guess we'll find out. My subscription runs out on photo.net tomorrow (June 3rd, 2009) and I don't plan to re-enlist. I loved this site 5 or 6 years ago, but it seems to me now that there are so many people 'into' photography now that much of what transpires on the net seems like the frustrated result of a bunch of 'better than thou' child-like male photographers, while the more interesting photographers are lost in the fold. I'll miss you and you know who are you.
