Main Street, Lodi, New Jersey. Dunkin Donuts is almost completely under water.
First Street and South Main Street, Lodi, New Jersey. A Chevrolet Caprice hopelessly soaking in the flood water of the Saddle River.
First Street and South Main Street, Lodi, New Jersey. There is a two-way traffic bridge on South Main Street which is completely submerged. Notice the "weight limits" sign.
Main Street, Lodi, New Jersey. An Army truck almost completely submerged. Police and rescue workers estimated that the water current was moving at nearly 40 miles per hour. 3-4 people died as a result of being swept away by these currents and in many cases, were swept off the roof of their cars while awaiting rescue help.
Main Street, Lodi, New Jersey. A slightly different angle of the same Army truck. That's the U.S. Highway 46 overpass above the truck. To give you an idea as to how deep the water was, realize that a tractor trailer can easily travel under that overpass. U.S. Highway 46 was closed in both directions which explains why people are standing around on the highway looking down on Main Street.
U.S. Highway 46 in Lodi, New Jersey. Notice the cars submerged in the east bound lanes. While you can't really tell by looking at the photographs, again, the water current was rapid and dangerous.
First Street and South Main Street, Lodi, New Jersey. The Boys and girls Club was submerged in enough water that the building was condemned by the borough inspectors. Additionally, the nearby raw sewage treatment plant was completely submerged during the flood creating bio-hazardous conditions in the entire area.
Main Street, Lodi, New Jersey. Another view of the submerged Army truck. I shot this photograph from the U.S. Highway 46 overpass using an 80~200 Canon EF zoom, set at 200. You can more clearly see the water currents in this photograph.
