Twin Towers. Old photo from my NYC days. Bittersweet memories. The building on the right is the Woolworth Building on lower Broadway. It stood for many years as the talles building in New York, starting somwhere around the turn of the 20th century.

Lower Ninth Ward eight months after the flood.

Homes remain where the flood deposited them eight months ago.

It is widely held that people who cannot collect flood insurance money are torching their homes to collect fire insurance money. Water must be trucked in to the fire because the neighborhood has no running water.

Lower Ninth Ward Street corner.

Destroyed homes serve as community and personal billboards where communities have been shattered. There is no other news media or tracking system for the residents.

The major avenues are lined with destroyed home, cars and piles of debris.

A small fragment of a home remains defiantly upright in the Ninth Ward.

There is a mountain of water in the Lower Ninth Ward brought in by FEMA. Even though there is no running water in the entire section of the city residents and relief workers will not drink the governments water.

A bitter sign indicative of the feeling of neglect and abandonment.

A destroyed home in the Lower Ninth Ward bears a haunting reminder of the loss of life.
