"Patrick is combining the romance of accounting with the romance of computer programming." This is how Philip summarized my life, or at least my day job. In my spare time, I occasionally read a book, I like to take pictures, enjoy sailing very much and am involved with photo.net.
Since the 1960s my dad has been taking pictures, first using a Pentax Spotmatic and later a Nikon FE. Using black and white film, he did his own developing and printing. Most of his pictures are family pictures, including me as a subject since April 1974. He would let me use his camera to take a picture and gradually taught me how the various controls work. I particularly found the process of printing a photo very interesting, having an image magically appear on a piece of paper.
Most of my photographs show my home town, the surrounding landscape and various places around the world. I occasionally do a bit of photojournalism work, for church or an event at work. Recently I have been taking photo classes at Fotogram (Amsterdam).
I have written a dozen articles for photo.net and written software to help improve the forums and gallery sections. I manage a wild bunch of photo.net members called the Elves who select the Photograph of the Week.
