Web Browser Color Space

A web browser operating in 8-bit mode uses a color space which is a good representation of the RGB cube for down coloring images to your display. Netscape Navigator uses a 6 by 6 by 6 cube with each step of color component having an increment of 51 (33h). Here is a representation of this 6x6x6 RGB cube and the color space it bounds. Try to visualize the Rho, Gamma and Beta vectors that exist along the three edges of the cube which leave the black corner.

You may want to review the RGB Color Cube illustration to compare it with this web browser color palette diagram. Notice the location of the Rho, Gamma and Beta sensor vectors and the corner locations of black and white, and the primary and secondary colors. This is a also good representation of your CRT's color space in 51/255 increments of its red, green and blue phosphor output levels.
