michaelklothphotography 0 Posted August 10, 2007 This is a beautifully done portrait of the woman and her child. You've captured an intimate moment amid a busy environment. Your lighting on your subject is well done and has given your subjects very nice tonal range and has provided nice detail for the viewer to absorb. Your active framing suits this image and your depth of field is really quite perfect allowing your subjects to be in sharp focus and rendering all else in the frame sufficiently out of focus to make your subjects stand out. Above all else, your control here accounts for the success of this image. Your light on the woman's face gives the impression that you used some sort of reflective surface for fill light which is generally well done. My one small suggestion would be to carefully dodge around her eye and bridge of her nose as it seems a little hot compared to the rest of the image. The relative brightness there makes that the focal anchor of the photograph which in and of itself isn't bad, but since your title is Sleeping Beauty, you imply that the girl should be the focus of the photograph. mvisionphotography 1 Posted August 10, 2007 I would love to see you blur the other persons ear out to the righ and crop the lower section out just a bit as it distracts me a tiny bit but other than that it reminds me TOTALLY of GRAPES OF WRATH. WOW! I had such a moment when I saw it!!!!!!!! Don't change another light on it. :) Link to comment

short1 0 Posted May 1, 2008 I just noticed this amazingly moving photo in your portfolio ( kids and landscapes don't hold much appeal for me - I like edgey stuff ). I honestly believe that this is the most powerful photo I've seen on this site. It transcends ratings and critiques, it strikes at the heart and soul. Given the circumstances in Croatia, I don't suppose this was taken in a pleasant or happy venue. If I knew the mechanism for doing so, I would submit this to the Pulitzer Committee. I'm amazed that the site administrators let this one slip by ( actually, no I'm not). Powerful beyond belief.....Angst and courage captured on film. C. Unger, M.D., Col. USAF (Ret.) Link to comment
