In the Observatory at Land's End

From the 512x768 resolution of a PhotoCD. The featureless white seen through the windows on the right is actually clouds boiling up over the edge of Grand Mesa, which rises over a mile above the valley below it.

No, not the retail outlet -- Land's End is the farthest westward extent of western Colorado's Grand Mesa, where it comes to a point, towering over the valley a mile or so below, where the Colorado and Gunnison rivers meet. Those are actually clouds in the background, boiling up out of the valley as they hit the sides of the mesa.

I metered for the scene outside, and planned to use fill flash to add some detail to the interior -- but forgot to turn on my flash. So, I got more or less pure silhouette. Better that way, maybe? With his face not visible, the condition of the old man -- i.e., asleep, awake and looking down, whatever -- is ambiguous.
