Identity

There are regular geometric shapes and symmetry here in the two buildings, in the three windows beneath the roof, in the windows on either side of an entryway of the rear building, but the regularity is broken by the dark entry with no side windows at one corner, as well as the more chaotic patterns of the shadows of trees and feathery clouds above; and this creates an interesting tension. I appreciate the amount of detail that remains in the brightly illuminated white wall in the foreground.

Thanks for your comments Mark. I am glad you see some tension in the photo, which is part of a series of trials I am making to reflect on the "identity" of old colonial houses, c 1700-1750 in current times (mostly photographed from their gable ends as this one in the foreground. The shed with lower part and upper chicken barn is a more recent structure (c1900 or later) that I included to contrast with the house (no end windows, as this is the cold winter wind end).

I have tried contrasty images for possible effect (yes, it is important to keep some detail in the white stuccoed stone wall) but am not sure how to go in future tests. The whispy wind blown clouds may be good as they might denote time passage.
